Donks are Dying in South Dakota

Post by Baldy »

South Dakota Democratic Party closes offices
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – The South Dakota Democratic Party is closing its Sioux Falls headquarters and Rapid City field office within the next month, citing financial costs.

Party chair Paula Hawks announced the closings in an email to state party officials Thursday. Hawks said office rent was the biggest expense and that the closures would be temporary.

Minnehaha County Democratic Party chair Nikki Gronli says the move is best for the party's future.

State Democratic Party officials say their executive director and West River field organizer will work remotely for now.

South Dakota Democrats also canceled a fundraiser in Rapid City scheduled for late September.
Will the last Donk in SD, please turn off the lights? :coffee:

Eh, I'd rather there be more there - I don't like polarization and the dominance of one political party over the other. Tends to open itself up for political extremism, regardless of party.

Just 15 short years ago South Dakota's entire Congressional delegation were Donks. Hell, a Donk almost won the governorship in 2018. This is a peek into the window of how the Donks are giving up on rural America, and highlight what would happen if the Donks wet dream of eliminating the Electoral College came true.

Guess that's not one of the 17 states you're counting on donks winning in 2020? :kisswink: :kisswink:

Why waste kiss-wink emojis on Jarf? Just give him the middle finger he deserves.

It is impossible, for any number of political and demographic factors, to have perfect political equilibrium in all 50 states.

ThinkProgress, a Top Progressive News Site, Has Shut Down
ThinkProgress, the influential news site that rose to prominence in the shadow of the Bush administration and helped define progressivism during the Obama years, is shutting down.

The outlet, which served as an editorially independent project of the Democratic Party think tank Center for American Progress (CAP), will stop current operations on Friday and be converted into a site where CAP scholars can post.

Top officials at CAP had been searching for a buyer to take over ThinkProgress, which has run deficits for years, and according to sources there were potentially three serious buyers in the mix recently. But in a statement to staff, Navin Nayak, the executive director of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, said the site was ultimately unable to secure a patron.

“Given that we could find no new publisher, we have no other real option but to fold the ThinkProgress website back into CAP’s broader online presence with a focus on analysis of policy, politics, and news events through the lens of existing CAP and CAP Action staff experts,” said Nayak. “Conversations on how to do so are just beginning, but we will seek to reinvent it as a different platform for progressive change.”
Nope. Nothing to see here... :coffee:

I'm concerned about having a viable opposition party not equilibrium.

Propose what? I'm concerned because I think a viable alternative is better but I don't think the government should try to fix it. "Deplorables" are going to be less and less interested in the Donk party as the urban elite takes more control and focuses more on minorities and immigrants. The Donk party can either address it or write them off. It's unfortunate but I think they're writing them off. Conks aren't much different though.

OK. Your usual response. Both sides do it, and the devil take the hindmost.

I never even suggested that the government should do anything about it. In fact, you proved my point: demographic and cultural/political factors are to blame for party imbalances in various states, and there isn’t much that can be done about it.

You never suggested the government should do anything about it just like I never said it was something that had to be fixed. Not all issues/concerns need to be corrected.

Demographic and cultural/political factors contribute to the situation but there are other factors such as technology creating the ability for people to get their news and interaction in echo chambers where they start to believe their opinions are facts. That genie is out of the bottle and isn't going back in.

I think there are things that could be done about it but I don't think they will be. The core of both parties is ok with writing off those that don't fit the party narrative.
