I think Kalm is saying that the right's fears about socialism will turn out to be groundless in much the same manner that the left's fears about Trump have turned out to be groundless because the checks and balances in the system will prevent them from from making significant changes.

Yes there would be executive orders and the priorities of federal agencies would change under President Biden/Warren/Harris/Sanders but will the changes be significant and will they be long lasting? Probably not. We get all bent out of shape thinking the end is nigh when we probably don't need to.

What checks and balances are there for a move to healthcare for all or free college or universal income for all? If the left is in power, there is no constitutional verse that can prevent it. Trump can only get away with things that laws allow or don't prevent.

Isn't that the same thing we heard for eight years with Obama? Didn't happen then and won't happen if a Democrat wins the next election. The checks and balances come from the electorate.

At this point I think we have a good chance of getting by with having a mentally ill person as President for four years (even though we are starting to see some disconcerting things happening with respect to Iran). But let's not extend the risk period.
