So you agree that if Trump were a Democrat, then you would be against him. Thanks for proving my point.css75 wrote:Ibanez wrote: A Republican was on CNN yesterday and what he said is probably the most honest thing I've heard from a politician in a long time. If Trump were a Democrat, the Republicans would be foaming at the mouths to impeach him. But he's not, so he gets a pass. Democrats are giving Warren a free pass on her cultural appropriation or that Governor who was in black face. But if any of those two were Republicans, there'd be protests and rioting in the streets.
Situational ethics only creates more division and has reduced politicians to using the Kindergartner Defense, " Yeah, but he did it too!"

Fatal mistake by the Dems to go down that road. Falls right into the Trump wheelhouse. Impeachment without a shot in hell in the Senate is just a waste of time.

Fatal or not, it's the right thing to do. Also I love how Moscow Mitch states that asking for the whistle-blower report would "make this political." What does he think politicians do? Maybe he just assumes everyone is as corrupt as him and can't fathom the idea others operate in good faith for their constituents.

Re: The Trump Whistleblower Extravaganza Thread
The problem with transcripts is that they can be falsified. I saw Elizabeth Holtzman talking about that today. She said that during Watergate Nixon at first tried to get away with releasing transcripts of the tapes. Turned out that once the actual tapes were released it was seen that the transcripts were not accurate.Pwns wrote:This is going to backfire unless there's something really good in these transcripts.∞∞∞ wrote: Fatal or not, it's the right thing to do. I would fully expect the Trump Administration to falsify transcripts if the real conversations are incriminating. If the real conversations are incriminating there is no way the Trump Administration is going to release accurate transcripts of the incriminating exchanges.
They need to get the whistleblower complaint and they need to have some way of verifying that it isn't doctored. They are dealing with a totally corrupt, dishonest Administration that can't be trusted. They've got to find a way to deal with that.

Stop with the stuff implying that Trump is smartly luring the Democrats in. The guy is an idiot. This is not some grand plan of his. The goalposts are not being moved. The demand has been for the whistleblower report. Everybody knows that transcripts can be altered and it's been done in the past.Col Hogan wrote:Oh shit...he’s going to do what we demanded and release the transcript...time to move the goalposts...∞∞∞ wrote: The Administration needs to release more than just the transcript. The whistleblower report could be altered too, I suppose. And therein lies the problem. We are dealing with an Administration that deals in lying. It's how it operates. That's not moving the goalpost. It's dealing with the reality of the situation.

Re: The Trump Whistleblower Extravaganza Thread
Watching and it's clear: They are up front in saying that the transcript won't do it. They want the full, unaltered, whistleblower complaint. As far as I can tell the Administration has not agreed to give that up. And BTW the relevant statute clearly and unambiguously says that report is supposed to go to the appropriate Congressional committees.

Yeah, releasing the transcript isn't going to cut it.Pwns wrote: This is going to backfire unless there's something really good in these transcripts.
Democrats need to force the DNI to turn over the whistleblower complaint to relevant Congressional committees as required by law.
A formal impeachment inquiry should hopefully help speed subpoenas through the courts, and hopefully give them a stronger argument for document requests, interviews, etc.

In my job, We sometimes get people reporting an issue, thinking it’s a problem but after a 360 review, it’s sometimes discovered that there’s isn’t anything there. People see/hear one thing and dutifully report it. But they only see one side of the issue.
I’ll say this - take all complaints (in my case a perceived threat) seriously. See something, say something.

Possibly. The Inspection General of the Intelligence Community got the whistleblower complaint and caused this shitstorm. He judged it to be an "urgent concern" and "credible." He is also a lifelong Republican and a Trump appointee. If he didn't press the importance of it we wouldn't be hearing about it.
From Atkinson's 9/9 letter to House and Senate Intelligence committees:
After receiving the Complaintant's disclosure, the ICIG was required within 14 calendar days to determine whether the information alleged by the Complaintant with respect to an urgent concern appeared credible. During that 14-day time period, the ICIG conducted a preliminary review of the disclosure. As a result of that preliminary review, I determined that the Complaintant's disclosure met the definition of an urgent concern, i.e. a "serious or flagrant problem, abuse, violation of the law or Executive order, or deficiency relating to the funding, administration, or operation of an intelligence activity within the responsibility and authority of the Director of National Intelligence involving classified information." I also determined that there were reasonable grounds to believe that information relating to the urgent concern appeared credible.
