I can't eye roll hard enough at this ^ comment

There are "thugs" all over the globe
We don't give a sh!t about thugs unless it suits us (whoever's in office at the moment)
and by this you're suggesting "the rest of the world" isn't watching Hong Kong right now?
and Putin murder squads and quarterly tank rolls

It will be our children's war to fight - if they don't opt to just succumb
Good luck

BTW:
this problem started in the 1950's and we've done nothing but exacerbate it for 75 years

:geek:

and you sound like a global warming alarmist teen angster
I’ve been on about China for years, buddy - what you hear now is frustration more than anything

And yeah- there are other thugs in the world- but only one in a country with a third of the world’s population and an actual stated desire to project power to other hemispheres

BTW - of course the world is watching... that’s good - the tut-tutting that we’ll hear from the media and world leaders won’t mean a hill of beans. The lack of action on China will be much more entertaining than anything.... because of course we shouldnt want to “hurt China’s industries”. So the squashed Hong Kongers on YouTube will be the latest in a long line of causes against China that just go away. Like Tibet or Tiananmen Square

Our children will have no option to succumb because we will have already done it for them. The histrionics over tariffs in this thread alone should be proof that we don’t have the will to standup to anyone much less China

Not to be particular, but according to the map I looked at, Flowers Bay is on the south side of the island, but the Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences is on the north side...directly across the island...

And I won't be there for very long...coming in on a cruise ship...not sure where they dock on the island. :dunce:

The main research and dive facility is on cayos cochinos (the little island block)
There is also a Marine Sciences "secret location" in the Flowers Bay area
which is why I said I'd give coordinates...

And hence part of the problem with the divisiveness in this country. Enablers is such a broad term that is means basically anyone who isn't fully invested in the Resistance movement to oppose any and all things Trump. I'm not voting for him, nor did I the first time, but you lose a lot of people when you call them enablers if they show anything other than full on defiance of every and any thing he does. It's like people haven't learned from the basket of deplorables fiasco and are instead doubling down on it. :coffee:

Relax. They're just words, and they have no real effect on people's lives. At least they don't on my life. I checked. My TV still works, my cars still operate, my money is still in my accounts, there is still food at the grocery stores for me to purchase if I choose, Bud Light is still readily available, pizza still exists (although barely in STL), grass and trees still grow, the US economy is still strong, and the Palouse is still undiscovered by vacationers.

He just gave the Red Chunks a two-week break, Francine. That’s all. Now the Chinese want to strip out the trade negotiations from other topics, like security issues.

Well, he is the co-author of the book with Navarro. So I expect him to say what he said and believe what he believes. But the link in the article is interesting.

https://www.econpol.eu/sites/default/fi ... ariffs.pdf

When Trump says that China is paying for the tariffs, the MSM (and JSO) scoffs at that because is shouldn't work that way. But US companies have put pressure on their Chinese manufacturing partners to eat the cost or they will go elsewhere. And I have heard numerous reports (not from MSM) that this was happening. THAT is how China is paying for it. And those manufacturers that chose not to eat the cost, have lost out to other countries as supply chains have shifted elsewhere.

Not to mention the devaluing of the Chinese currency as well to try and counteract the tariffs.

Rumors are that the Chinese have made some concessions to pave the way for a partial deal. Trump is being briefed at this moment. Stock market is hopeful with DJIA up 400+ points.

The deal has to be considered from status quo ante. It's probably each side agreeing to roll back already instituted tarrifs. For the Trade War to be a positive, I would think it would have to change the status quo ante... but, I'll let a Red Hat jump in and explain why I'm wrong.

Agree from a standpoint of whether a Trade War was a positive or not.

This deal is probably nothing more than China buying more pork and Ag commodities for the promise to postpone the October 15 and December 15 tariffs.

Early reports suggest that this is considered a Phase 1 deal, with additional Phases down the line. Phase 2 negotiations to begin once Phase 1 is signed (approx 3 weeks).
Tariff hike on Oct 15 has been postponed. No mention yet of Dec 15.
