Erdowan?
Maybe a plane load of cash to Ankara would work

Send a plane load of cash, get the Turks to agree to leave the Kurds alone, declare victory, easy peasy
Sounds good, Erdogan can be bought.

If you look at the list of Kurdish political groups, they range from Communist to Islamic to militias ...

So, when people say we walked away from “The Kurds”, we had walked away from the majority of the Kurds decades ago...
Didn't Britain and France draw the boundaries after WWI? I don't know the reason but they probably felt it was in their interest to separate the Kurds.

The Armenian comparison is a good one.

CID, would the PKK be a problem for an independent Kurdistan too?

Yes, to a degree. But they came about due to the decades of conflict the Kurds have lived under. Take that away and the PKK is bound to soften but they’d still be a political party - one consisting basically of former terrorists

Think of them as a nasty version of Sinn Fein

Waiting for the fuel trucks. I can't see how Erdowan, or anyone, is going to be impressed with being called a fool by Donald Trump.

Ditto. Been 18 years. For the people complaining about pulling out, how many more years do they want boots on the ground in the ME? 1 more year? 5? Another 18 years? 50? Forever? When does it end?

Jesus Christ man, pull your head out. Obviously the problem isn't that we're pulling out, that's a good thing, its how we're pulling out. Abandoning our position to Russian intelligence in panicked retreat...that's pretty disgraceful and I think the troops are going to blame Trump for making them a laughingstock in front of our enemies.

No matter how or when we pulled out, it would be abandoning our position to Russian intelligence. There’s no “good” way to do this.

We could have guaranteed their sovereignty in the Irbil-Sulaymaniyah region in return for their own pledge to renounce any claims to their territories in Syria and Turkey but that ship sailed when we left Iraq.

Frankly, anybody paying even a modicum of attention to the region knew this was going to happen - the only question was when

Cutting and running is reminiscent of Somalia - one should at least try to look like they're leaving because they want to not because they're being kicked out and can't do a thing about it.
