Look, retirement is just moving on from a paying job to a bunch of non-paying jobs. You don’t just sit on your duff, think happy thoughts, and smile all day!

Most of the retired folks we know seem to be busier than ever: clubs, neighborhood groups, charitable work, grandkids, political activities. Mrs. Ivy and I have more “vacation time” than we did when we worked for a living, but we probably travel a bit less. It’s all good!CAA Flagship wrote:You're doing it wrong.Ivytalk wrote: Liar!I hope you like what you do for a living.

IOW, things you WANT to do. My point exactly about being happy.Ivytalk wrote:Most of the retired folks we know seem to be busier than ever: clubs, neighborhood groups, charitable work, grandkids, political activities. I am a big fan of Gregorius. Nice left-handed bat from a middle infielder, which is not easy to find. Average speed, average glove, strong arm. Great person as well. Good clubhouse and community guy.Ivytalk wrote:Back to the Phils. We signed Didi Gregorius today, but only for one year.

And I wanted to practice law — and was pretty happy about my work — until I decided I was ready to stop. Your post implies that you don’t like your work. If true, that’s a shame, but you’re still young enough to do something else.89Hen wrote:IOW, things you WANT to do. My point exactly about being happy.Ivytalk wrote:

Really. Life is about choices. You can do something else but you might have to make sacrifices to make it work.89Hen wrote:Not really.Ivytalk wrote:If true, that’s a shame, but you’re still young enough to do something else.
It's very likely that I could find a job that pays me significantly more money in another area of the country but I like what I do and I like the people that I work with and at this stage of my life that has a lot of value. If I manage my assets well, I'll still be able to retire at a reasonable age and enjoy myself.
If you're lucky there might even be a job that pay as much or more than you make now that you'll like even more. You'll never know if you don't keep an open mind.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

It's not about having an open mind, it's about where I am and need to be, at least for now. With 89Jr closing in on his final semester of school, things may change next year, we'll see.UNI88 wrote:Really. Life is about choices. The Phillies aren’t willing to spend “stupid money” after all. Looks like Klentak has been firmly instructed not to get into luxury tax territory to go after A-list free agents.
