Here’s a prediction: we are going to win, pass a Green New Deal, and criminally prosecute the fossil fuel executives who destroyed the planet.

I've warned you about underestimating Bernie before; don't count him out yet - the DNC is going to have to be more careful about ratfucking him this time.

And I'll bet the Repunklicans would much rather face Biden than Bernie regardless of what they spew publicly.
Jason Riley of the WSJ made many of the same points today, but with a bit more detail and a lot more elegance.

You stickin’ with your President Nancy prediction, houndy?

I'm going soft with the caveat that as long as Trump keeps talking there is a chance. Thats the difference: you wait until afterwards then blow hard about you knew it all the time. With footnotes.

I don’t think Jason (who is black, BTW) has ever used the word “ratfucking” in any medium.

A Bernie Presidency would be almost as entertaining but much more short-lived than a Trump Presidency. He would bloviate about everything he was going to do, Congress wouldn't pass sh!t, he'd throw a tantrum and write a bunch of executive orders that so far exceeded his authority that Congress would finally stand up, he would lose in court and he would lose it and pop a blood vessel in his brain. Game over. He would outlast Harrison but probably not Garfield.

Perhaps your forgetting how long he’s been around, or that he wins red districts in Vermont, or that he worked with Ron Paul of all people on auditing the fed.

But I know...Boo! A socialist!

Show me a truly successful socialist nation without diverting to Nordic countries that use the power of capitalism to provide a social safety net.

Bernie is a socialist, he wants state control of the means of production because he's arrogant enough to think that he and people like him can do a better job than the market. He's a lot more Maduro than Löfven or Frederiksen. So I don't like or respect him and I think he would be a disaster as President. I do think the checks and balances put in place by our visionary founders would keep him in check and don't believe that his election would lead to armageddon.

How come we can't have that? We provide our leaders with the best social safety net money can buy.

And I bet Bernie wouldn't be lining his pockets to the tune of millions of taxpayer dollars per month either.

Let's face it, with either Trump or Bernie or Biden, considering the fact that they're all pretty old, this time around picking the Vice President to run with is going to be particularly critical. The odds that any of those three could die in office if they were elected is actually pretty significant. The VP this time could end up running as a Presidential incumbent in 2024. I think Trump stays with Pence, but who Bernie and Biden would pick would be pretty interesting.

Well, Vermont standard of living is already relatively mild, and Bernie's already got a pretty palatial home by Vermont standards.

You have more faith in Cousin Bernie than I do. President Bernie would be living large splitting time between his dacha on the coast and a lodge in the woods/mountains.

Bernie talks a big game but he's as much of an attention, power and money whore as your average Washington insider. Bernie Sanders and his wife earned $1.7 million in past two years, returns show.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has made income inequality a hallmark of his presidential campaign, earned with his wife about $566,000 last year and $1.15 million in 2017, putting them in the nation’s highest income brackets, according to tax returns released by the presidential candidate Monday.
Maybe Congress should tax 100% of all income earned by elected federal officials that is greater than their federal salaries. I'd love to see Bernie go full hypocrite to fight that one.

Well that’s our issue. Show me where Bernie has indicated he wants state control of production/100% socialism. He seems to be advocating for things that have worked here and/or in other mixed economies like socialized health insurance, subsidized education, and higher taxes on wealth. You had all three things going on at least in California during the Eisenhower administration and yet they somehow managed to avoid becoming Cuba.

I’m not expecting you to like or respect him, just some rational explanations for your accusations. I’m listening. :thumb:

I’m not very concerned about small tweaks but the people who advocate for socialism-lite are the same people who are never satisfied with anything. We aren’t in any danger of a radical move to socialist systems but incrementalism does concern me - at least hypothetically.

I’ll be dead and gone before we see someone like Bernie win a national election though, so I see most of it as hot air to garner the fringe votes
