Dude, the criticism is completely warranted.

Your boy hasn't taken anything seriously - still isn't - and just appointed Mike Pence as the coronavirus tsar. This is the same Mike Pence who enabled freakin' HIV to have an outbreak in Indiana. What knowledge or experience does Pence have to lead this thing?

Go take your "woe is Trump" sob story to Breitbart's comment section where it belongs.
BS. The far left TDSers such as yourself would root for anything to get Trump out of office. There’s a huge difference between taking it seriously, and going full bore overreacting & hyperventilating like some are doing.

Czar not tsar. You just can’t get away from your Trump-Russia delusion.

Right now the US count is 60 infected/0 deaths. 2017-2018 Flu season (which granted was the worst in about 4 decades):

Yes the Coronavirus is at least if not more contagious than the flu, with a much higher death rate (in 1st world countries its only about 1% so far). Now Corona could potentially surpass those flu numbers. But no reason to go into panic mode yet.

Our collective weakness lies in the assumption that there is someone (government, scientists, our parents, God) in control of everything.
First of all, no one is hoping the economy is worst off because of this.

Second, I both agree and disagree with your overall point about control. We can't control everything, but we can mitigate items (which is a form of control) and in other cases, fully-control things.

We have scientists and doctors and experts; what's the point of a functioning society if we don't correctly use the available expertise?

I'm still hopeful that Vice President Pence can pray the virus away.

The entire US (or even global) population to draw from, and you're telling me the best guy to lead the American effort against a potential pandemic is lawyer-to-politician Mike Pence (who couldn't contain HIV in Indiana and believes in the Evangelical end-times)?

Those aren’t reasons why Pence is the wrong guy. Management of the US response just needs someone with executive authority to corral the various Federal departments

Pence is the wrong guy because he’s fully loyal to Trump, and then likely to stay away from inconvenient messaging that his boss wouldn’t like.

But then who’s left, anyway? What competence that was left has mostly runnoft

And that's fair. But even if he's just corralling - like you said - who are the people he's corralling? Are they themselves the appropriate people to be running the federal departments?

The way Trump's run the US government into the ground, the whole operation seems to be the blind leading the blind at the upper echelons. Anecdotal (but also from what I've read), every person I know at the lower levels basically says leadership is non-existent at this point.

Edit: one of my friends in the DoL hasn't had a boss in 3 years. That's kinda what I'm talking about

Im not suggesting we shouldn't use experts, but we are damaged goods when it comes to self reliance and I think far closer to chaos if the shit hits the fan than many realize. I want to know how racially diverse the group working on this is.

And I see Cid has already addressed why Pence was put in charge.

Has Chuck Schumer really complained that the $2.5 billion requested isn't enough and that it needs to be billions more? I wonder which contributors' pockets he's trying to line? Never let a good crisis go to waste.....

A South Korean woman was just reinfected a few weeks after recovering from the virus.

Not a lot of information about how long antibodies remember the virus, and it's one case, but it's still a concerning development.
