See the Iowa caucuses. People can't just "figure it out". The entire draft could be nullified if one team drops connectivity, so it has to be locked down and redundant as hell.
Sweet Moses, we've managed to have live, online fantasy football drafts for years, and the NFL can't figure this out? Make sure everyone has everyone's cell phone so if you lose connectivity with the web feed you can always pick up the phone. The Iowa caucuses were a bunch of hicks and hundreds of different caucus locations. These are 32 teams who are supposedly tech savy. Just git 'er done.
Easier said than done. :thumb:

You're talking about billionaires who could fly in a different #10 hooker (or two or three or...) from eastern Europe to bang each day, yet they go get $50 tug jobs from flat-faced over 40 gooks at strip malls.

Sweet Moses and Baby Jesus, these are not geniuses we're dealing with here.

Indeed, there is a special level of stupid there I hadn't thought of.

Maybe Colangelo can lend them a few of his burner phones in case they don't have enough to go around?

This is probably Belichick's wet dream of a draft.

It really is amazing that Wentz won the division with the receivers he had last year.

Even more amazing that Howie could have gotten him Hopkins in the off-season for peanuts and he passed.

You want to know the receiving corps that were rated lower than the Eagles by PFF..?

the Redskins and the Patriots for starters
Three playoff teams made it with receiving corps in the bottom 3rd of the NFL (Titans Patriots Eagles)
I'm pretty sure the Eagles led the league in drops
the Patriots were the worst as far as "open" or Separation
the Titans were the worst in Yards after catch
the Redskins were the worst in a few things but were near the worst in damned near everything

Wentz passed for over 4,000 yards last season without a single wide receiver getting 500. That's making lemonade out of lemons.

Oh I just did a google and grabbed one that I could easily copy and paste. But I guess it doesn't show the year.

No doubt about it... Wentz is top 5 NFL caliber QB by any standard
and I agree completely - if he had a couple of quality receivers sh!t would get real

On the way home from Philly this morning, WIP (Philly SportsTalk station) rattled off another stat that blew my mind:

Quarterbacks who have thrown 20 or more TDs and 7 or fewer INTs in an NFL season....

Two years in a row: Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson
Three years in a row: Carson Wentz

Other tidbits:

-Wentz has thrown 35 interceptions in his career, or one every 58.7 pass attempts. That’s the second-best INT ratio in NFL history, behind only Rodgers (72.2). That’s with the NFL’s minimum requirement of 1,500 attempts.

-Wentz is the third QB in NFL history to throw a TD in all 16 games in a season and finish with seven or fewer interceptions. Brady in 2010 and Matt Ryan in 2016 also did it. Wentz was the only QB to throw a TD pass in all 16 games last year.

-Wentz has had 23 games in his career with 30 or more attempts and no interceptions, most ever by a quarterback in his first four seasons.

the goal is really 3:1 TD to INT
the very few QB's that can pull that off as a general performance metric are going to win a lot of games
The gold standard right now is Aaron Rogers at 4:1 over his career

Wentz has a real chance to be among the all-time greats
he's shown a real skill for reading coverages and ball placement against that type of coverage

Christian McCaffrey gets paid ...

Christian McCaffrey is Getting Paid for Exceptional Production, Not Resetting the RB Market
That Christian McCaffrey became the NFL’s highest-paid running back ever on Monday, with a four-year deal worth $16 million a season, is good news on the surface for running backs. The position has been decimated financially after feeling a bit of tailwind from the Le’Veon Bell, Todd Gurley and Ezekiel Elliott deals.
What do you say Chizzy? Are they overpaying?

The guys on the LeBatard show saying that you really have to look at him as a slot receiver as well as a RB. Given all the yards he’s piled up by age 23, their view was that he’s worth the dough.

And don’t call me Chizzy.

Thanks Clitz. I'd agree with them which is unusual because I think LeBatard's a clown. McCaffrey is more than Gurley, Elliot, etc. and his versatility as a receiver means he's worth more than a standard running back.

That’s why I like LeBatard and Stugotz. They are funny guys who don’t take themselves seriously. Unlike other broadcasters who are lost without pro sports, Dan and Stu can do a lot with a little material.

They are overpaying sure
but they are terrified of pissing him off and then having to franchise tag him - then losing him at 25

as mentioned already he's probably the 3rd best slot receiver in the NFL right now
He's a top 10 running back right now

What can you do..?
you can't let him walk and he's got all the leverage in the negotiation

Indeed, there is a special level of stupid there I hadn't thought of.

Maybe Colangelo can lend them a few of his burner phones in case they don't have enough to go around?
See, GF, this is what I was getting at. These billionaires aren't smart enough to mute their phones. Conference call fucking 101.

This could still be a shitshow on Thursday night, but I hope it's not. The Lions are parking their head of IT in a Winnebago in the GM's driveway during the draft.
Representatives from every NFL team went through a dry run of the draft Monday morning with a two-round practice session. There were some early technical issues, which included a 2-and-a-half minute delay for the Cincinnati Bengals to make the first pick, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Earlier reports had the delay as much longer.

There was also an issue with too many people on the call not using a mute function.

At least they had enough sense to do a dry-run. Hopefully they ID'd which folks shouldn't be anywhere near the phone or a computer so that they don't screw it up. There truly should be an IT guy who at least a guy under 50 at each team's location to make sure they don't screw it up. And yes, they should have multiple cell phones at the ready if they need to call in a pick. As I said, fantasy football drafts have been online or remote for years and we always figure it out.
