Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
Yakima County is flying patients to Harbor View in Seattle. Franklin and Benton are pretty much running out.
Some states and counties will (hopefully) never be threatened while others (like Florida which is now over 100,000 new cases and the death toll is rising at a faster rate than testing) will get hammered.
Rollercoaster for another year.

Rebecca owned and lived on the boat, and then she met Patrick, an experienced long distance sailor, and they got married and set off. Patrick was at least 60 and Rebecca looks to be late 50s.
Patrick is a real techie, and a lot of videos center around boat maintenance, which is what grabs my interest.
They have most recently rounded the cape of southern Africa, heading west. They hauled out for a couple months in eastern South Africa to do a bottom job and other maintenance on the boat. Their last video had them departing and heading to Cape Town. Then the videos stopped for a few weeks and I couldn’t figure out why.
Rebecca just posted a video - they both contracted COVID and had been sick for about 2 weeks. She said it was persistent and would not go away. She remained in a slow burn but Patrick got progressively worse. After TWO WEEKS with flu symptoms, they took Patrick to the hospital in Cape Town where they both tested positive for COVID-19. Then Patrick was admitted to ICU while Rebecca went back to the boat for 2 weeks of quarantine. The hospital then called her back to say goodbye because Patrick was dying. He had been sick for about 4 weeks now. He died a few hours after she reached his bedside, covered in PPE.
Dude was sick for a mo th and so was his wife, but hers didnt progress beyond coughing and fever.
This whole thing is personally sad to me. But it should also serve as a warning that none of us - NOBODY - understands this virus, its incubation, or its life cycle. It is likely not fatal for most people. But it is devastating for those who are vulnerable.
Our grandparents had food, clothing, and gas rationing. Their grandparents had typhoid fever and real hunger. What does it say about us that we can’t be bothered to just practice minimally inconveniencing precautions like wearing masks and staying away from people?

My older sister is the charge nurse and an administrator of the Surgical Trauma ICU (STICU) at the Medical University of South Carolina. She's involved in hospital wide meetings, discussions, decisions,etc... about COVID. She's also a Republican who, like many of you, voted for Trump b/c she would't vote for Clinton (she's since turned the dark side of the Independent and joins me as being a critic of Trump and the GOP). She's smart, pretty unbiased, has great taste in music and is one of the most reasonable, level-headed people I know.
I say all of that to say this:
She gives us frequent updates since she's in a position to know. She knew about the first cases before they reported (she knew 1 of them personally). Last Thursday she sends us a text that the MUSC COVID Unit had 22 admittance's, each critical and each one between 30-40. She also says the unit is almost full. It was set up to handle 13 people at once. Friday night, she tells us a second unit has been opened. Everyone that's come in from Friday to last night have been between 30-60.
She just sent a text and they're opening a 3rd unit tonight.

Dunno, from Ibanez's post it seems like they don't have to send anyone anywhere, they appear to have the capacity internally. A US chart is worthless. Tells you nothing about local conditions, where it matters. Arizona is running out of ICU beds.

This means very little to any of us (other than the ages). Ask her if they are admitting people in a condition that they would not have two months ago (in other words, lowered the bar). Also, are they using Remedesivir as in-patient, out-patient, or both (and what percentages of in/out for the Remdesivir treatments). What other treatments are they using? And drugs on trials? What looks promising? Get the useful info.Ibanez wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 1:18 pm My older sister is the charge nurse and an administrator of the Surgical Trauma ICU (STICU) at the Medical University of South Carolina. It means quite a bit. They’re doing all they can. To echo CIDS story about the sailing couple I have a friend who’s cousin was on a ventilator for a month is recovering now and learning how to swallow and breath again. 45 days of hospitalization so far. The age of infection is getting lower too and there are young and healthy people who have experienced the same. It’s almost as if we’re underselling the severity and threat at this point. Then there’s the potential lifelong damage to organs.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 5:27 pmThis means very little to any of us (other than the ages). So that means that in about 6 months so far this year, its about:
Heart disease 330k
Cancer: 300k
Chinese Virus: 123k
Even if you knocked of Jan and Feb, since March, it would be about:
Heart disease 220k
Cancer: 200k
Chinese Virus: 123k
To put that in perspective, in a country of about 330 million, the Chinese Virus has killed about 4 one hundredths of 1 percent, or about 1 in 2,700.
I'm more concerned about heart disease and cancer (have lost family to both) than I am the Chinese Virus..

It’s not the same with COVID-19. We’re learning as we go. It’s like people don’t understand what a “novel” virus is.
But don’t let me stop you from comparing apples to VW Beetles.

I’m telling youGil Dobie wrote:Had we not had the lock downs, the virus numbers would have been really high. Like you implied, no way to social distance heart disease or cancer.
Right now America looks really fucking stupid from Asia. Other European countries aren’t far behind.
The “you cant tell me what to do” crowd as well as the people who oppose them and then minimized the protests... right or left, Americans look really stupid right now
And the maddening thing about it is full on shutdowns arent necessary - just simple mask wearing, cleaning your dick beaters, and staying 6 feet away from people and community spread would literally be down to a trickle
And the REALLY irritating thing is that if we do these things ^^^^ right now, the virus would be largely shut down in about 4 weeks

Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
Yawn. The age demographic of those testing positive is dropping, which is what is expected as things reopen. Until large amounts of late 30's dying off like the 65+ crowd did then we can get worried. Until then, no reason for anyone to buy into the fear porn.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 5:18 pmAgain...WITH social distancing and other restrictions. run the numbers on the early open states and counties.SDHornet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 3:42 pm
It tells us hospitalizations nationwide are way down from their peak. Not happy about the increase in hospitalizations of younger folks, be mad at the politicians that turned a blind eye regarding health protocols to the protesters the first 2 weeks of June.![]()
The protest impact will hit its full stride In another week or so. Still might be less of a spreading incident than nail salons, barbers, churches, family and friends gatherings, etc.
Here’s an eye opener...
