FedEx is asking the Redskins to change the name. I believe it's the largest team sponsor (and stadium namesake).
Reports are Nike and PepsiCo may follow soon.
Pathetic it'll take corporate America to change the name instead of doing it because it's right. But whatever, as long as it happens.
The "Market" is the answer for many things, and this is another example. It is the best platform for people to "vote". The scope is narrow and there is no pork involved. There are no politicians getting rich off of a change. There are no lawyers bringing cases to court. And there is little chance for a reversal in the future due to political election reversals. It's a beautiful thing.
I'm a Redskin fan. If the name changes, I can live with the awkwardness. It's not the first time a sports franchise has changed it's name, and it won't be the last. I wasn't around to live through the change from Highlanders to Yankees. People will get use to it and move on.
So who is next? Cleveland Indians? Golden State Warriors? San Diego St. Aztecs? Will PETA push to ban animal names?
