Are we comparing apples to oranges? Aren't elections usually a lot more fluid with parliamentary systems?

I don't think so. The last time elections were delayed in NZ was 80 years ago...during WWII. That doesn't seem to be very fluid to me.

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
Are you sure? Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern reveals September 19 election date. They've already been moved back once.
I don't know about NZ specifically but do parliamentary systems have a firm election date set by law (like the Tuesday after the first Monday of the month)? They probably have to call them within a certain timeframe but I seem to remember prime ministers calling for elections when they felt it was appropriate (i.e. when they thought their party would retain control) or when forced to (by a no-confidence vote).
Who requested the delay in NZ? Will the elections still occur within the legally required timeframe?

CA, on top of 39.6% top fed income tax rate, and highest in the nation 13.3% state rate.
I saw the CA donk legislator Robert Bonita on TV also stating that the bill would tax the rich 10 years AFTER they moved out of CA (which of course would be challenged in court).
Might as well rename those bills "Drive the rich out of California Acts"..
But wait, there's more: 1st in the nation wealth tax proposed, bill AB2008:AB1253 would add surcharges of 1% to incomes (joint or single) between roughly $1 million and $2 million, 3% on income between $2 million and $5 million, and 3.5% on income greater than $5 million, bringing the top rate to 16.8%.
https://www.sfchronicle.com/business/ne ... 482011.phpwould hit about 30,400 California residents and raise an estimated $7.5 billion for the general fund.
The proposed tax rate would be 0.4% of net worth (most likely ended up far higher), excluding directly held real estate, that exceeds $30 million for single and joint filers and $15 million for married filing separately.

If it passes it sounds like it will be retroactive for 2020. New York is considering a similar bill.Ibanez wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 12:20 pmI read this earlier. What an idiotic move. One thing I find funny about their estimates of money that it will raise is that they assume that the base conditions (people or businesses) will not change. It has shown in the past that people adapt to new tax laws and the revenues are never as high as they projected.

I don't think this is a left/right thing. Opposition parties requested the delay.
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/1 ... rus-396978
The election had been scheduled for Sept. 19 but will now be held on Oct. 17. Opposition parties had sought a delay after the virus outbreak prompted the government last week to put Auckland under a two-week lockdown and halted election campaigning.

Example #5209582834759 of American Privilege
https://apnews.com/a06b0341ff8c9a53582d953ac8c02971The shortage is even being felt by the young.
Take Jen Vicker, of Bollingbrook, Ill. Her 10-year old daughter woke up with a loose tooth recently and worried the tooth fairy wouldn’t be able to pay because of the shortage, unaware her parents had a stash of coins set aside.
So she wrote a note: “Dear tooth fairy, you may already know this but there is a national coin shortage in America. You usually leave me dollar coins, but until this situation is resolved, I would like cash for my teeth. I apologize for the inconvenience.”
