Trump wanted to add a 4th (as a desperate candidate wants and needs) but was rejected by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

There will be 3 POTUS debates and 1 VP debate. As per usual. :coffee:
Any word on the formats or locations? Will they be virtual?
Biden could sit in his basement and Trump could sit in the window well and have 2 hearing impaired people sign each other thru the window, with a translator.

That convention was so bad that Trump got a 4 point bounce. Heard Biden was thinking of quitting. I'd be surprised if he is the candidate.

I think they did at least OK. See https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/21/democra ... e-dnc.html.
The virtual Democratic National Convention led to a windfall in contributions to Democrats up and down the ballot, suggesting a surge in enthusiasm for nominees Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris.

The total haul for just those two days alone came close to at least $40 million.

Bundlers helping Biden raise campaign cash told CNBC throughout the week they are seeing new commitments from business executives who were originally on the fence about giving six-figure checks.
I think we are in a very interesting situation. I think the COVID-19 thing hurt Trump in terms of public opinion. But, ironically, it may help Trump because Republican voters are far more likely not to take COVID-19 seriously. It looks like they are far more likely to vote in person. Democrat voters appear less likely to vote in person. A lot of them may vote by mail. And, unlike Trump, I don't think the biggest problem with vote by mail is potential voter fraud. I think it's potential for not having your vote counted because you screw up in some way.

I also am genuinely concerned that the Russians may actually hack into election systems this time. Frankly, I'm not sure they didn't do it to some extent last time. I don't think that matter was ever thoroughly investigated.

I think that if the election were held tomorrow and we were in a free and fair election situation like we have been accustomed to most of our lives Trump would get crushed. But we are not in that situation. There are numerous complicating factors. I have no doubt that the majority of US citizens want Trump out. I don't think that is likely to change by election day. But I am concerned that he may be able to hang on regardless.

Yeah, John, leave it to those highly intelligent Donk voters to find a way to screw up a mail-in ballot.

It's called acting in a manner consistent with what the science says he should do. Biden is acting like the more intelligent of the two candidates. Will it work? I don't know. I hope so.

If nobody's gotten back to this yet:

Joe Biden's speech was live. I heard Brian Stelter say there were dozens of reporters in the room to verify that. The context was that he said Rush Limbaugh questioned whether it was live and Stelter exclaimed "There were dozens of reporters in the room!"

So I Googled and found this: https://www.mediaite.com/election-2020/ ... e-it-live/

I normally wouldn't use Mediaite as a source but the Mediaite article has a link to an ABC News Article describing the event. We now know for sure that the speech was live. But we also know that bit of misinformation suggesting it was recorded is bouncing around in the Trump cult/conservative echo chamber and undoubtably will continue to do so.

Using Brian Stelter as a “reliable source” is bad enough.

I heard that Biden got +5. That’s the rule post-Convention for either party.

SG, if you want to be an opinion leader on here, do your homework.

You heard wrong. RCR average 8/16 (day before donk convention started) Biden +7.7. Today Biden +7.6.
The only poll that has been done entirely post convention is CBS/You Gov 8/20-8/22, which has the widest gap at Biden +10.0. The last CBS/You Gov poll, done right before the convention 8/12-8/14? Biden +10.0.

Any which way you slice it, Biden has yet to show a post convention bounce.

Biden’s net favorability rating among registered voters went up 5 points after the convention(ABC News/Ipsos). That’s an important metric. His overall lead over Trump remains solid.

Any word on the formats or locations? Will they be virtual?
POTUS 1 - September 29 - Case Western University, Cleveland Chris Wallace
90 minutes long. Divided into 6 15-minute segments on topics announced a week ahead of time.

VP - October 7 - University of Utah Susan Page
90 minutes long. Divided into 9 segments of 10 minutes each.

POTUS 2 - October 15 - Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts in Miami Steve Skully
90 minutes long. Town hall format.

POTUS 3 - October 22 - Belmont University in Nashville Kristen Welker
90 minutes long. 6 15-minute segments on topics announced at least a week ahead of time.

As far as "virtual" or not - I'm sure the audience will be pretty limited but, no indication the candidates won't be in person.

Biden will make sense. If you watched his press conference today where he had to answer questions you saw that he is fine cognitively and can answer questions in a cogent, thoughtful way. Trump will lie a lot and act like a 10 year old. Biden will come off as the more knowledgable and rational of the two. But, for some reason, there is a substantial proportion of population that thinks that a 74 year old man acting like a 10 year old and lying a lot is cool.
