The fact that today's wealth gap is worse than the Gilded age should tell you enough about how bad it's gotten.
No one argues capitalism is a method to the means, but Americans deserve significantly better benefits for their labor. The fear-mongering about socialism is dumb when the average person is working harder than ever and seeing their quality of life decrease.

I’m worried about klam. He seems to have withdrawn into a Covid worry-bunker, and his recent posts are listless. Have to start calling him Low-Energy Klam.

I’m not worried about Covid nearly as much as I’m disheartened at our selfishness and politics in dealing with it not to mention the stupidity and confirmation bias the crisis and our leadership has emboldened. It’s more than likely the defining change moment of our lifetimes.Ivytalk wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 4:45 amAttaboy, 88! See how good it feels to pwn the libs?UNI88 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 7:54 pm

Plus, I spent a weekend in the hospital last month with a gastro bleed that required three blood transfusions, an endoscopy where they cauterized lesions in my gut and esophagus, and had my BP at one point down to 73/32. Still recovering from that so forgive me for being surly...or...wait for it...anemic at times. Literally!

And yes, America can be very disheartening at times, from leaders to the everyday average joe. Maybe the saying "there is special providence for drunkards, fools, and the United States of America" is starting to run out of juice? I think we've always been on the tip of things not working, though, America has always been more messy than the cleaned up history would lead us to believe. It's because of that that I think we'll pull through - it's just what we do.

Take care of yourself and keep the faith. America is a remarkably resiliant country and as Ganny says, it's usually been more messy than history has recorded. I'll wait until you're feeling up to it to suplex you into unconsciousness.kalm wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 5:26 amI’m not worried about Covid nearly as much as I’m disheartened at our selfishness and politics in dealing with it not to mention the stupidity and confirmation bias the crisis and our leadership has emboldened. Well, we have more technology so we can get real stupid at really quick rates. We used to be more of a really big ship turning in the ocean - we'd turn the wheel all the way to one side and the ship would eventually start moving that way. Now we can spin circles on a dime with that same ship. Not exactly smooth sailing.Silenoz wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 8:43 amI dunno. You don’t need to be told that the American Project is being sorely tested. Our society and policy are deeply divided along political, geographic, and economic lines. Writing a quarter century ago, historian Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. presciently pointed to the tribal forces that he warned then were “disuniting America,” the key words in the title of his 1991 book.[1] Things have gotten worse since.
...
But we cannot ignore progress. Over the past five decades, civil rights have been expanded not only for blacks, but also for women and for gay, lesbian and transgender Americans. One important indicator of increasing tolerance emphasized by historians and social scientists: inter-racial and same-sex marriage, unthinkable and illegal when I was growing up, is now widely, though not universally, acceptable and legal.

Re: The Official "Making America Great Again" Thread
Heard a guy on CNBC the other day talk about August market performance as a predictor of the election. He said that, so far, the market is counting on a Trump win. But I'm in the camp that says that there are extenuating circumcisions this year. I'm also in the camp that says September will be ugly, but I've been saying that each of the last 3 months would be ugly. Nobody likes watching a game where the outcome is pretty much determined before kickoff. That won't be the case with this election. I wouldn't bet on any outcome.Ibanez wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 8:01 amI didn't read anything in that article that hinted that Wall Street is positive on Trumps reelection chances, could you point it out.BDKJMU wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:23 pm Looks like Wall Street is starting to think Trump will win..

Saying “Congress needs to reassert itself” is like saying “humans just need to get along”.
It’s obvious, and it’s not going to happen.

Except the logical response from the opposition would to be to put together a coherent platform with a half decent candidate. Instead the DNC pushes the worst candidate ever (hildog) followed by an old white guy with dementia. But yeah let's just do away with the Presidency instead.
