I am pretty sure RBG has dirt on the Grimm Reaper and it gets released if he ever tries to collect.

Ginsburg dead.
Will be interesting to see how Rs respond. I think it would probably be smart for them to make the presidential election about the SCOTUS seat and not rush a nominee through. If they don't think they have any chance, might as well push one through.

Of course the Republicans won’t do anything with her seat during an election year. They’re not about to be hypocrites.

They won’t. They’ll ignore their own hypocrisy. This is politics.Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 5:11 pm Ginsburg dead.

Bullshit. Selecting a nominee now will cause the Left to become even more violent and burn more cities. In case you haven't noticed, that shit isn't good for Democrats.Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 5:11 pm Ginsburg dead.

Re: RBG has Cancer...Again
There are pro's and con's to both approaches. If you wait the D's have something to rally around, if you push one through they have another reason to dislike Trump (which may not be that big of a deal consider their emotional response to him so far). On the flip side, pushing one through will give energy to the R's and Trump can hold up an accomplishment to his base. I don't see much of a plus for waiting from the R's side.Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 5:11 pm Ginsburg dead.

The Senate has been confirming Judges these past couple of weeks (13 so far) and they could just roll right into a SCOTUS hearing. All depends on if McConnell has the votes already lined up.

I think Mitch McConnell will actually agree with Jelly, but Trump being Trump he's going to ram through a nominee and will just hurt the Republicans in November.

Re: RBG has Cancer...Again
Was that a hard rule, or just because Obama couldn't get one passed and it was a way of saving face?
Whether that final wish will be granted is unclear. McConnell has insisted that the precedent he created to deny former President Barack Obama’s nomination of Judge Merrick Garland in the final year of Obama’s term—in a vacancy that occurred nearly nine months before the 2016 election—no longer applies, because the same party controls both the White House and the Senate majority

Re: RBG has Cancer...Again
It hasn't worked for 230+ years.
And that's beside the point anyways. The entire system works on each branch interpreting the Constitution however it wants, and battling the interpretations of the other branches. If Congress calculates that it's able to pack the court without major backlash from voters, it should certainly do it. And then the voters can decide if the reps made the right calculation or not.
When Obama was President, McConnell decided to exert the power of the Legislature over the Executive. There's no reason a future Congress couldn't similarly exert its power over the Judicial branch. It's up to the other two to stop them.

Re: RBG has Cancer...Again
Well, McConnell couldn't get rid of Trump by convicting him in the senate without pissing off the base, but he can let Trump douse himself with gasoline by pushing a nominee through while "owning the libs". Meanwhile, his senate seat is safe.
He and Joe Biden are the only winners here.

This.
RBG was an excellent justice and member of the Supreme Court. The Court and the country are lesser places without her. Hopefully, we have justices who can fill her (and Scalia's) robes in the pipeline.

That’s not the case here. That being said, I don’t think there’s any way they can push a candidate through with a vote prior to the election.
But the histrionics of liberals on FB and twitter is fucking comical. “I’m terrified”. “I fear for our country’s future”...”I’ve never been so afraid for our country”.... What in the actual fuck?
