The hundreds of thousands of ruined business owners and those who lost the 8,000,000 missing jobs might disagree with your first sentence.
Did I say there was no suffering?

The unemployment numbers and the lack of a long term downturn in the market are surprising considering...
Imagine what the unemployment numbers would look like if we’d stop incenting people to NOT work.

About the same, given that there is zero science to support the “social distancing” rules that decimated businesses.

In fact CDC came out today and said “6 feet, 60 feet, really no difference indoors”.

So not shutting businesses down entirely ended up a compromise as we’ve learned more. :thumb:

Die Füherein Whitmer: Rules for thee, but not for me.
Gov. Whitmer apologizes after photo shows her violating own COVID-19 order at Lansing bar

LANSING, MI - Gov. Gretchen Whitmer apologized Sunday after a photo circulated of her at a Lansing bar violating Michigan health department orders by closely gathering unmasked with a dozen other people.

No more than six people can gather together at indoor restaurants, and groups of customers must be six feet apart, according to the latest Michigan Department of Health and Human Services pandemic order. The photo of Whitmer and the 12 other patrons was first reported on Sunday by the right-wing publication Breitbart.

Whitmer apologized later on May 23 after the photo circulated, saying her group “didn’t stop to think about” the implications.

“Throughout the pandemic, I’ve been committed to following public health protocols,” Whitmer said Sunday in a statement. “Yesterday, I went with friends to a local restaurant. As more people arrived, the tables were pushed together. Because we were all vaccinated, we didn’t stop to think about it.

“In retrospect, I should have thought about it. I am human. I made a mistake, and I apologize.”

The gathering took place at Landshark Bar & Grill in East Lansing, Breitbart reported, and the photo was posted on Facebook before it was deleted. The picture also shows Tricia Foster, Michigan’s chief operating officer, who received criticism for an April trip to Florida in violation of state travel restrictions at the time...

Yet another example of why everyone and every restaurant and bar in Michigan should ignore her dictatorial restrictions..

One of the reasons they’d get vaccinated anyway. Thinking about others.

This will be interesting. A lab funded by US tax dollars in the gain of function research pushed by team Fauci.

And it still blows me away how little the Italy connection has been reported on.

Covid found in Italian blood samples from Sep. 2019. Daily flights from Wuhan to Milan and a 100,000 Chinese nationals working in the Italian garment industry.

Good article that echoes what Josh Rogin has been writing about.

Very good read. The last two paragraphs really bring it home...
Journalism suffered a general intellectual collapse during the Trump administration, as many have noted on the Left and Right alike. The moral grandeur of #Resistance appears to have been so intoxicating to those who felt the mantle of Saving Democracy settle on their shoulders that the workaday demands of journalistic diligence and sceptical curiosity seemed paltry. The great imperative was to keep underlining the divide between good people and bad people. What we have learned is that a Manichaean atmosphere of moral sorting is intimidating, and therefore provides the perfect cover for “informal pacts of mutual protection,” to borrow a phrase from Martin Gurri.

Liberalism began as a doctrine of political scepticism directed at rulers, based on the truism that power corrupts, and always adopts a virtuous pose. In time, this gave rise to a complementary form of journalism that was basically adversarial towards the politicians it reported on. If we want to revive the spirit of liberalism and adapt it to a technocratic era, it will require a similarly sceptical form of science journalism, based on the recognition that appeals to Science have become the basic idiom for the exercise of authority.
Certainly a danger when science becomes so politicized. The science then, often, becomes much less robust as it is parsed to fit a political narrative. COVID is just one of many examples of this.

I realize Facebook has algorithms that sometimes censor legitimate items

But the fact the these algorithms caught a factual comment about media malfeasance and corruption of scientific inquiry is pretty telling

What was odd to me was that I got no notification or anything. It just went away. The lack of any notification makes me wonder if I got whacked by an actual person

If that is the case then Facebook is pretty much Weibo or WeChat
