I’m not sure what you don’t understand about viral antibodies:

they are those wee little magical things that *actually* stop viruses from multiplying inside the cells of your body

In the world of science and medicine that’s what is called “immunity”. It is really that simple.

More antibodies = more immunity

If you know of examples where some virus has not followed this very elementary biological maxim, I’ll be happy to entertain them. But specifics, please. I noticed in your last two replies you started to retreat into a bit of that klam-like vagueness so you can later claim you said nothing of the sort.

I was pointing out your propensity to call scientific studies word salad and implying I don't understand what I posted.

Okay, back on topic. On your side, you have said the vaccine targeted the S protein and that antibodies = immunity.

On my side, I said that in many instances, Immunologists and Public Health officials declare natural immunity superior to vaccine immunity.

Also provided three studies that show:
1) Natural immunity targets the whole virus
2) Natural immunity shows a robust interferon response together with an induction of cytotoxic gene expression in peripheral blood lymphocytes
3) Out of 55,000 patients, 3300 were reinfected with ALL of those coming from the vaccinated pool and not the natural immunity pool.

Lastly, I pointed out that people still have antibodies to the SARS1 virus, which shares a great percentage of similarity with SARS2, thus lending to the belief the immunity will be long lasting.

We haven't even gotten to the variants and need for boosters.

My youngest had his first Pfizer dose a month before he turned 18. Had his 2nd yesterday. Good friend who is 40 is still having heart and kidney issues 6 months after getting Covid.

The boy wanted the jab because while he would most certainly survive Covid and probably without symptoms it would increase the chance that it could cause serious problems for his mon and I.

He likes the comfort of extra protection and knowing he’s part of the solution for beating Covid back to manageable numbers in his community as he starts socializing again and returns to work.

I don't think anyone on this board is saying your family is stupid. Back in 2009 during the H1N1 pandemic, when my wife was immunocompromised due to chemo, the whole family got immunized for the same reasons your family got immunized. To help keep those susceptible safe.

I don't get a flu shot yearly and probably never will. This is shaping up to be something similar and alot of fear porn thrown at people for no reason.

There is a lot of fear porn and it's coming from both sides. On one side you have the people who think that a large percentage of people who get COVID need to be hospitalized and many of them die. On the other you have the people who think it's no worse than the flu or that it's a hoax. The truth as usual is somewhere in between what the Karens on either side are screaming.

I agree. That is why I said to follow the data. Making decisions based on emotions and feelings is not the right route.

For a certain segment of society I definitely think that the vaccine is a good "voluntary" choice for them to make based on the different characteristics of this pathogen and if I was in that particular age or history bracket I would happily get the vaccine. I am in no case trying to say it is a hoax or that the vaccine is bad (at least that we know of in the short term). I see the data and then I see the mainstream media hype, the political double speak and just feel that common sense has been lost amidst of all the screaming and pointing of fingers and trying to gain political capital against ones perceived "enemies". And what we will all lose is the many different shades and shapes of freedom in the end.

I am more concerned with the different choices/paths we are being presented with as individuals and society that use COVID and the corresponding "panic" as a societal lever. Maybe my concerns are unfounded, maybe they are not. The next couple of months will be interesting to say the least.

Doesn’t make sense for healthy kids to get the vaccine vis a vi the risk/benefit ratio, because the chance of kids contracting and having negative effects from the virus is almost nothing.

I agree. Non emotional numbers...covid killed 560,000 people in this country alone. Covid can be highly contagious. Both voluntary and compulsory social distancing both hurt the economy but limit the crisis.
