Now people will understand why the CDC quit tracking breakthrough cases that don't result in either hospitalization or death. If you don't record the numbers, you don't have to defend them.
Thank goodness Israel and the UK are still tracking, otherwise we wouldn't be seeing around 50% of new cases are from the previously vaccinated.
Now for the real irony. The vaccines were never tested on whether they prevent COVID, but if they reduced serious illness, which is great. I can remember people being called conspiracy theorists and antivaxxers for pointing this out, and now this line of thinking is being used as the main point defending the vaccines. It was always true, but it didn't sound good, so it was vilified until it was needed to bolster an argument.
