Anecdotal in that it's my experience. lol. But you're right...the cases we see today are overwhelmingly of non-vaxxed people.

The fact that breakthrough cases are so small has to imply the vaccines work, no?
I wonder how many of those are RSV, which is going around right now.
I thought RSV only really hit the very young (i.e. under 5 y/o group). I know my youngest had RSV when he was either 1 or 2 - spent a whole week in the hospital just to recover. We still think he has slight asthma from that experience. He's 12 now so we had him get the vaccine. Seemed to be the type of virus we wouldn't want him to get.

Honest question, is there anyone that wants it that can't get it at this point? I think we are more than read to move into the "let the chips fall where they may" part of this pandemic.
Children under 12 can't get vaccinated yet. I'd rather not let the chips fall where they may with that age group not able to be protected initially.
They are exposed via their vaxxed parents, so I don't see what the big deal is.

It hits everyone, but the hardest hit are the usual suspects. Young children who've never had it before and the elderly with weakened immune systems.

Huh? How do you figure? I'm vaccinated but every time I give blood for the Red Cross it comes back that I've never had the virus. How would I expose my kids to COVID just by being vaccinated? This isn't smallpox, it's not like the vaccination is an inoculation with live virus.

When I read stories about how they are finding COVID in the deer population, it makes me wonder how many have really been exposed.

I'll bring it up again. The Desert Princess cruise ship was a real eye opener. 20% tested positive, with many in the same room as the positive, testing negative. I've never been on a cruise ship, but imagine it's pretty easy to spread COVID in such a confined area.

Where else would hey be getting exposed? The virus is gonna virus. If you're worried about your young kids coming into contact with someone with the China Virus then keep them locked up at home at all times.

But I don't understand your point about them already being exposed via their vaccinated parents. What does that even mean? You said they're exposed if their parents have been vaccinated - you need to clarify what that means.

As for kids, it's not like they're holed up in their homes right now anyway. Millions are already back in school with millions more to come, and kids have been out and about for months now via vacations, youth sports, restuarants, camps, etc. Maybe they've been exposed, maybe they haven't. Like I said, I don't show any signs of ever having had COVID and I've been in person at work since March 2020, and we've been sans masks for the past 3 months now and I've been out and about without a mask. It is possible to not have been exposed to COVID yet.

See SGs response above. Somehow these people are still getting it even while vaxxed. Is related to the vax? Who knows, but it's being transmitted some how.

Huh? I think you're really making a reach that the vaccination itself is what gives people COVID. That just sounds crazy.

People who are vaccinated are not 100% immune from getting the virus. No one has ever made that claim at any point in this process. That there are breakthrough cases of COVID is not surprising in the least, it was always predicted. Even at it's best, the Pfizer vaccine was supposed to be 90%-95% effective. That means 5% of people who got the vaccination would still get COVID. And since the potency appears to be waning, a higher percentage are getting it. But it does appear to significantly cut the chances of being hospitalized or dying from it. The data looks pretty clear in that regard.

I believe that masks aren't as effective as many in power would lead people to believe but are they really useless?

I'm guessing they have some value in preventing the spread. How effective is an everyday cotton mask? There has to be some study out there that can give us a ballpark figure.

Using the terms worthless or useless to describe masks or mask mandates seems to be hyperbole, kind of like calling Trump a Nazi.

JSO had a link to a guy talking about it. They're not useless, just very limited in effectiveness. I suppose it helps when a person sneezes or coughs as it stops mucous projectiles (or most of it) from really travelling, but not much else. Suppose still better than nothing, but that's why I'm fine with vaccinated folks wearing them or not wearing them.

In regards to masks, I've looked at them from the angle of chemotherapy. When my wife was getting chemo, the center always had a sign up asking those who had a cough or didn't feel well to please wear a mask. Helps to limit spread of those who are Ill. How much, I don't know.

In the old days, we used to stay home and not be a dick if we were sick. If we had a cough or sneeze, we did it into our elbow and lastly if we saw someone who looked ill, give them a wide berth. That seems to be what a mask has replaced.

You are what you eat. And a large number (well, smaller now since the onset of COVID) of Americans are big fat pigs suffering from a number of comorbidities associated with obesity. High blood pressure. diabetes. High Cholesterol. ALL almost guarantee that COVID will tear you a new asshole. The vast majority who do NOT suffer from those issues have little issue with COVID.

And don’t “but but but” me with anecdotal examples that go against that norm. It’s the truth and all you COVID apologists know it. We are a fat, unhealthy society and the chickens have come home to roost. So unless i get to slap the fucking Big Mac out of your (collective) hands, don’t make me responsible for YOUR health by wearing masks and social distancing. You (again, collective) obviously don’t give a shit about your own health, why should I?

This. I was talking about this a little while ago in this thread, but more from the angle of "just wait until the unhealthy start getting demonized". If it's okay to vilify the unvaccinated, wait until people start figuring out the problems/cost associated with comorbidities.

Those with comorbidities, who seem to be some of the worst COVID scolds out there, will have the tables turned on them and be denied medical services because it will be a waste of money and resources better spent. Care will be rationed.

Lastly a personal story. When I was first learning about bacteria and viruses, I remember wondering how we all weren't dead, because of their ability to mutate and "share" genetic information. Then, I learned about immunology and that put me to rest, as the immune system is insanely cool and highly capable. From that point on, I realized how beneficial it was to have a healthy immune system. A no brainer, but until I understood how crazy viruses and bacteria were, it didn't quite ring home.
