Speaking of bigoted. More recent evidence suggests neanderthal May have been the more peaceful of the hominids. Maybe even smarter.

You woke humans disgust me.
And how did that peaceful (maybe smarter) wind up working for them? Their version of "make love not war" lead to their extinction. ;)

I don't blame Russia for everything and while they may have had valid security concerns they were still the aggressor in Ukraine. And the people who blame Russia for everything are IMO less nuts then the whackadoodles who: blindly defend Putin and Russia and/or argue that Russia hasn't invaded Ukraine and this is a media-enabled conspiracy.

The stuff coming out about Ukraine is pure Infowars BS

Ive been following that red pill black gal on Twitter and she has full on lost it. … repeating verbatim Putin propaganda

Russia is waging a war of aggression against a weaker neighbor. They previously annexed the most strategic piece of that country. There is literally no way to equivocate about this.

The whole Nazi thing is so laughable and sad at the same time that Americans Re buying it. Absolutely disheartening

I have to say, I haven't been following people enough to see that - are Americans really buying that there are Nazi elements at play in the Ukranian government?

I have seen the things that the Ukraine is backing off their hopes to be in NATO. I think that's a mistake long term. I don't buy this Russian narrative that Ukraine would be a threat if they entered into a defensive alliance with the West. I'm sure we could make provisions that would limit the number of standing military and/or weapons in Ukraine if Russia wanted to feel "safe from invasion", and there could even be provisos put into place that would punish Ukraine for any offensive measures (which everyone who's not Russian knows they wouldn't do anyway). But this idea that "great powers" get to have vassal or subordinate states around them to manipulate and control is just archaic. Ukraine is and has been a separate nation. They don't want to be a part of or controlled by Russia. That should be the end of it. I know that annoys the Russians and Chinese who dream of empires, but again, that's 100 years, at least, too late.

Stories like this don't help. You read through it and you can see they aren't a large part, but the media sure went all in on the "white supremacist" angle and now they can't get it tamped down.

When they finally rendezvoused, Fuller noticed the swastika tattoo on the middle finger of Furholm’s left hand. It didn’t surprise him; the recruiter had made no secret of his neo-Nazi politics. Within the global network of far-right extremists, he served as a point of contact to the Azov movement, the Ukrainian militant group that has trained and inspired white supremacists from around the world, and which Fuller had come to join.

I read 2014 in TheHill article below. Congress was forbidding that money given to fight the Russians, wouldn't go to the neonazis.

Ukraine has had a long history of Nazism since there was actually a Ukrainian SS in WWII. And these elements remained in Ukraine during its time as a SSR and after. After the Maidan revolution, the Azov Battalion was absorbed into the regular Ukrainian army (they were a militia before) and since that time their affiliation with anti-Semitic elements has been tamped down. Ukraine has also popularly elected several Jewish officeholders in the last decade, including Zelensky. Ukraine is no more infested with Nazis than the US is infested with Klukkers. But we both have them.

Ironically, Putin using right wing extremism as a casus belli is so laughable it should be in the Onion. Russia for the last 20 years has been serving as a haven for Western right wing extremists who are under threat of arrest in the EU or surveillance in the US. Putin welcomes these people with open arms.

Putin’s use of de-Nazification of Ukraine is specifically focused on the Azov Battalion because it is easy to paint them that way - and Putin hates them because they formed specifically to resist Russian aggression in Ukrainian territory. The AB is VERY good at killing Russian military and Russian supported militias, and they have been doing it since Russia began supporting unrest in the east.

Now they’re doing it to D&D.

Is nothing sacred anymore? :ohno:

“The next book published for Dungeons & Dragons will be an anthology of 13 adventures penned exclusively by Black and brown authors. Titled Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, it will add a mysterious new floating city to the original role-playing game. The book will be available on June 21.

During a presentation for press, design co-lead Ajit George said that the project grew out of his experience working as a freelance designer for D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast in 2020. George was part of a diverse collection of writers involved in creating Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft, a critically-acclaimed sourcebook published in 2021. In our review, Polygon called it “the best D&D book of this generation.” During that project, George became the first person of Indian descent to write Indian-inspired material for Wizards’ tabletop role-playing game. He says he left that experience wanting more.“

Meh. I don’t count this as terribly woke

I got in on D&D in the very early days and back then it was largely focused on European-centric Tolkien-esque mythos and fantasy. But when AD&D came out big in the early 80s, a quick browse of the first Monster Manual showed that the game had expanded to include critters and pantheons of central Asian, Middle Eastern, and Indian cultures. There was also a little African stuff in there.

I think Indian authors like the one in the article are well positioned to flesh out some adventures using already existing realms within the game. Much the same way that a Russian or Ukrainian author would be able to give a more interesting story involving Baba Yaga. Personally, if I’m going to
play a campaign centered on Indian mythos I would probably prefer it be written by someone who understands that culture in detail, rather than some pimply white dude in Minnesota
