As Mencken said, nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.
Adam Smith did some damage too. Fucking Brits…
Maybe. But the comparison falls completely on its face if you consider the positives brought by Smith's disciples vs. Marx's disciples.
I was joking. You can attribute bad and good acts to many philosophers and it’s kind of pointless.
Yeah I’ll wait for you to point out the progenitors of capitalist economies who did purges, deportations, mass murders, and gulagskalm wrote:I was joking. You can attribute bad and good acts to many philosophers and it’s kind of pointless.
For instance, innovation, competition, etc are positive aspects to capitalism. But you also should acknowledge colonialism, indigenous peoples, and child labor along with it.
That’s why somewhere in the middle between feudalism and Stalinism appears to be a sweet spot.

Yes, because capitalists were/are the only ones who conducted colonialism, held down indigenous peoples and used child labor.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 3:12 pmI was joking. You can attribute bad and good acts to many philosophers and it’s kind of pointless.

You didn't know that the Romans, Persians, Egyptians, Mongols, Aztecs, Incans, various Chinese dynasties, etc. were all capitalists?AZGrizFan wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 6:16 pmYes, because capitalists were/are the only ones who conducted colonialism, held down indigenous peoples and used child labor.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 3:12 pm

Sometimes his logic defies………logic.
Thank you for showing a graph that agrees with my examples of innovation and completion.
Factor in when and where the GDP growth occurred and you neuter any attempt to give Marx credit for it.kalm wrote:Thank you for showing a graph that agrees with my examples of innovation and completion.
Btw, if you created a drug today that cured all cancer, it would lower GDP.
I like capitalism…when fairly regulated and it grows the middle class. It’s interesting that your graph shows a steady spike in GDP after and despite Marx’s influence.
Coincidence?
I kind of like how the whole premise of that tweet rests on the concession that Antifa is real and bad, and then just pokes fun at Peterson’s “why”
Hmmm….socialism sure does sound like capitalism based on that last statement.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 7:49 amFactor in when and where the GDP growth occurred and you neuter any attempt to give Marx credit for it.kalm wrote:

There is no doubt that capitalism has warts but it has increased our quality of life so much while Marxism on a large scale has been a slow grind to misery.
Only an uninformed fool really believes that socialism will work this time. The other supporters are grifters who plan to use the system to enrich and empower themselves and their friends.

Not really. Capitalism also has grifters but the idea that it's comparable to socialism in not working is just stupid. Look at the changes in quality of living in the USA vs the USSR.kalm wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 10:45 amHmmm….socialism sure does sound like capitalism based on that last statement.UNI88 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 7:49 am

But I do enjoy how we can interchange marxism and socialism and ignore the reality of mixed economies (which is what most of the developed world has).
And what about communism? It has to feel left out here.![]()

The "Antifa is just an idea" narrative sure didn't age well.
