They weren't playing anywhere in NZ when we visited about 10 years ago. Were visiting a fellow I'd travelled around Europe with in the 70s who was second cousin to Israel Dagg, their FB at the time.

I have a friend who toured the south pacific with an Australian team that he had an offer to play for and planned to accept, except that he was drafted by the 49ers in a surprise first round pick; he'd expected to go to KC in the 2nd/3rd round and couldn't refuse 1st round money - $80K/yr in 'the late 70s; played with Joe Montana in their 1st 2 SBs.

In CA they play Rugby in high school now
