Gad dang it!

Even the bees are turning commie! What with all their satanic practices of democracy and collective intelligence.

Next they’re going to tell us democracy is natural, beneficial to humans, and comes from God. And we should recognize examples found throughout the natural world from schools of fish to herd animals as examples.

:ohno:
Honeybees make decisions collectively—and democratically. Every year, faced with the life-or-death problem of choosing and traveling to a new home, honeybees stake everything on a process that includes collective fact-finding, vigorous debate, and consensus building. In fact, as world-renowned animal behaviorist Thomas Seeley reveals, these incredible insects have much to teach us when it comes to collective wisdom and effective decision making. A remarkable and richly illustrated account of scientific discovery, Honeybee Democracy brings together, for the first time, decades of Seeley’s pioneering research to tell the amazing story of house hunting and democratic debate among the honeybees.

In the late spring and early summer, as a bee colony becomes overcrowded, a third of the hive stays behind and rears a new queen, while a swarm of thousands departs with the old queen to produce a daughter colony. Seeley describes how these bees evaluate potential nest sites, advertise their discoveries to one another, engage in open deliberation, choose a final site, and navigate together—as a swirling cloud of bees—to their new home. Seeley investigates how evolution has honed the decision-making methods of honeybees over millions of years, and he considers similarities between the ways that bee swarms and primate brains process information. He concludes that what works well for bees can also work well for people: any decision-making group should consist of individuals with shared interests and mutual respect, a leader’s influence should be minimized, debate should be relied upon, diverse solutions should be sought, and the majority should be counted on for a dependable resolution

Republic and democracies are two different things.

A Republic means the state apparatus is owned by the public. Essentially any country that isn't a Monarchy or Oligarchy is a Republic.

Democracies are systems of gov't in which popular elections determine the organization of the government. Under democracy, you have one ore more forms of democracy (indirect, direct, illiberal, liberal, social, etc.).

The United States is an Indirect (aka. Representative) Liberal Democratic Republic.

That's a pretty good summary but it's different than what bobsquat has read in MAQA yahoo echo chambers so it must be false. Either that or it's beyond his ability to comprehend.

You are 100% wrong in your definitions.
Republic
1. a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president
2. a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/republic

Democracy
1. A government by the people
2. A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/democracy

From Webster's Dictionary (the source you refer):
The United States is both a democracy and a republic. Democracies and republics are both forms of government in which supreme power resides in the citizens. The word republic refers specifically to a government in which those citizens elect representatives who govern according to the law. The word democracy can refer to this same kind of representational government, or it can refer instead to what is also called a direct democracy, in which the citizens themselves participate in the act of governing directly.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/democracy

Try reading your own sources next time. What else do you want to be wrong about?

You are indoctrinated not educated.

Democracy the majority of the people elect their leader (Not the USA)
Republic our leader is selected by the electoral collage and not the majority of people.

Yep! Literal and simple. Only countries with an electoral college are republics.

Furthermore, most European countries are direct democracies.

This is at least the 2nd time he's done that. I believe I gave him the Webster's definition the 1st time so I was surprised when he brought it up in this conversation.
