Partly true statement at best and only if the entire economy is socialistic vs. just socialist policies within a mixed economy such as ours and rest of the developed world.

Education can be an important element of giving the poor the ability create their own wealth and lift themselves up so gutting education (or worse, attempting to use it for religious indoctrination) is counter to sowell's quote.

Infrastructure is an investment. Disease control is an investment. Food safety is an investment. They are paid for with tax revenue. Starlink, Tesla, certain green energy projects, advanced weapons technology are gambles.

Many of the companies that lobby for funding of these projects pay zero in taxes.

They are takers with no personal skin in the game.
