State Dept. ‘reforms’ foreign service training to include white supremacist teachings

Among the newly announced changes is a plan to implement a “comprehensive basic training program” featuring “required and recommended” readings from “George Washington, John Quincy Adams, and James Monroe, selections from the Federalist Papers, and works from George Kennan, Angelo Codevilla, and Samuel Huntington.”

Those last three in particular are popular among white nationalists due to their unabashedly racist and illiberal rhetoric.

Kennan was a former influential diplomat at the State Department who served as an ambassador twice. He also once supported authoritarian rule in the United States, and his racist worldview has been touted by white supremacists.

Huntington was a political scientist who served in the White House, but later turned from scholarship to fueling hysteria toward Mexican immigrants. His 1993 “Clash of Civilizations” essay has helped fuel MAGA world’s anti-immigrant ethos.

And Codevilla was a right-wing professor and author whose book, “The Ruling Class,” made the argument that the U.S.’ era of slavery and the postslavery Reconstruction Era — in which enslaved people were granted some freedoms — were similar evils because, according to him, both stemmed from a belief that it’s right for “superior men to subdue inferior ones.” It’s a kind of false equivalence that mirrors Republicans today, when they decry antiracist efforts as discriminatory.

Virginia strips tax breaks for organizations connected to the Confederacy

On Monday, Virginia’s governor, Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat and the state’s first female governor, signed into law a bill that eliminates tax exemptions for organizations connected to the Confederacy.

HB167, passed by Democrats in the Virginia house and senate, specifically removes the Virginia division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Stonewall Jackson Memorial, the Virginia division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Confederate Memorial Literary Society, along with other groups, from the state’s list of organizations that are exempt from state property taxes.

The irony of groups that celebrate the confederacy complaining about discrimination.

Trump singles out Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as ‘low IQ’ in latest slur against prominent person of color

Writing on Truth Social, the president claimed the three justices appointed to the high court by Democratic presidents — Elena Kagen, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson — “stick together like glue, NEVER failing to wander from the warped and perverse policies, ideas, and cases put before them” and accused them of “always” voting “as a group or block.”

But then he specifically went after Jackson, the most recent member elevated to the high court, as “that new, Low IQ person, that somehow found her way to the bench.”

SPLC charged with defrauding donors over paid extremism informant program

Prosecutors focused their case on eight informants who received at least $3 million in payments between 2014 and 2023, according to the indictment. Some of those individuals were members of the Ku Klux Klan and Nazi parties in the US, the indictment says, adding that their payments were sent through shell companies to obfuscate who was being paid.

The system went against the SPLC’s promise to fight against violent extremist groups, Blanche said in a news conference Tuesday, adding that the organization was required to be transparent with donors about what their money was going towards.

“As the indictment describes, the SPLC was not dismantling these groups, it was instead manufacturing the extremism it purports to oppose by paying sources to stoke racial hatred,” Blanche said.

The indictment offers little to back up Blanche’s claim that the payments were used to fund crimes by the violent extremist groups, but it describes some of the informants who the SPLC was allegedly paying.
