I'd love to be there for that first ASU score at Kidd Brewer this weekend - it would likely bring a tear to the eye and blood to the ear. :thumb:

HAHAHA. That ol' chestnut again huh? Autzen has the record it would appear but WaGriz is louder than many, many stadiums that are much bigger so that is faulty reasoning. Go read what the ODU coach said in his piece on it. FWIW I wasn't at the game in question but I've been in Autzen a couple of times and it was not as loud as WaGriz is during the playoffs, Griz/Cat, and other big games.

Pick up your BS flag as you through it without knowing what you're talking about.
It could be part of the reason it doesn't sound as loud is the space it has to fill at Autzen compared to a WaGriz

It certainly could be.

this is about as productive as the "who has the biggest flagpole" debate I've seen elsewhere.

Wa-Griz is a great stadium.
Kidd-Brewer is a great stadium.
The FargoDome is a great stadium (albeit not really a dome).
The UNI-Dome is a great stadium.

And there are a number of other great stadiums amongst the FCS ranks.
They're all winners.

Ursus is right, and hell yeah I'm gonna brag on these - Autzen does have the loudest recorded decibel level ever vs Arizona State or USC in 2007.

I will say that Autzen Stadium is the loudest I've ever heard - but Wash-Griz is even louder on average and is much much louder than 75k at Cal or 100k at Michigan. Speaking from experience.

I quit reading after the first three words of your post but I'm sure the rest was good too.

The loudest stadium I have ever experienced was in my kitchen with the former Mrs JayBilasBitesPillows.

Fortunately, I was able to get rid of her for an upgraded model. Too bad cash for clunkers was not in effect 10 years back, as she had absolutely no trade-in value.

Foreman Field @ ODU was rocking again last night. Cannot wait to hear it when we actually are in a tight game late in the 4th quarter.

I remember the game with ESPN and the decible meter recorded 120 - 121 for that game - it happened when Tuff Harris intercepted Sam Houston at the goal line.

This thread is worthless without pictures.

Taken with my crappy 3X optical zoom point and shoot. The fans are right on TOP of the game, that is another reason for a stadium to be loud.

Alcohol consumption doesn't hurt crowd noise either. West Virginia is loud, but that is because they don't have any teeth to deflect the sound coming out of their mouths.

Wash-Griz is the loudest. Here is the reason why. The field sits below ground level, the fans are right on top of the field, we drink lots of alcohol, and our fans are crazy about Griz football and our home field advantage. All time record at Washington Grizzly Stadium is 141-20(.875) since it opened in 1986 at an original capacity of 12,500 (currently just under 26,000). During an interview a few years ago during the NFL playoffs Tony Romo was asked what was the loudest stadium he'd ever played in, and he said without a doubt it was a playoff game in Missoula against the Griz at Wash-Griz stadium. I rest my case!! And if anyone still doubts this then come see a game for yourself, then you will understand.

Id also think with it being hemmed in by mountains that it would keep the noise in pretty well, WA. Griz is easily one of the best stadiums i have or probably ever will see, :thumb:

The following is one of the hardest points to get across to people, who assume you're nuts when you make it:

A smaller stadium can be louder where it counts than a bigger stadium, all other things being equal, simply because of the design of the stadium.

Why?

Sound intensity diminishes by the square of the distance.

So, for instance, any sound is 4 times as intense at 1 foot from the source as it is at 2 feet from the source.

In other words, sound intensities drop off quickly with added distance, and many larger stadia are built either for multi-purpose or with very large sidelines, making the distance from the source of the sound to the field much greater.

Thus, you can be in a crowd of 75,000 at Husky Stadium in Seattle and think it's pretty d-mn loud, and be right (usual brie and wine crowd excepted), probably much louder than any much smaller stadium, because you're right in the middle of the sound, with very little distance between you and the source(s).

However, because the object of the sound is the field, and the dimensions of the stadium conspire against Husky Stadium, the relative designs (all other things being equal) at Washington's Husky Stadium and Montana's Washington-Grizzly Stadium probably favor Wash-Griz for sound intensity.

Wash-Griz has approximately 20-foot deep sidelines; Husky stadium has approximately 80-foot deep sidelines. That's the key.

Here's a link to a spreadsheet I did a few years ago (before the latest Wash-Griz expansion) comparing the theoritical sound intensities at Wash-Griz and Husky Stadiums:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key= ... oNnc&hl=en

Bottom line: Wash-Griz can theoretically be louder than much larger stadia, at least on the field where it counts. Design and acoustic science make it so. (And no, I'm not claiming to be an acoustic engineer, just trying to understand how it gets so blasted loud in WGS -- other FCS stadia may also have this or other advantages [like domes to bounce echo] that make them louder than many FBS stadia as well.)

I'm not even going to get into the relative intensities of different school's fanbases' voices; I think that one is fruitless.

Depends on where you sit. I have been to many of stadiums....but it depends. the loudest i have ever heard is Wa/Griz and i think for a constant....Wa/Griz is one of the loudest out there. I just know that we love the griz and we have been cause for many of problems for teams. But im sure the same is out there for UNI or APP.st. i have sat bottom row in the student section, bottom N-ezone everywhere else to top top of the south endzone. its LOUD no matter where you are. but the loudest part of the stadium is the loweset level.
We will never know who is the loudest. i just know that i am more than happy with how loud we can get and how many opposing players i have pissed off.

Ever see a kicker warming up missed the practice net??? i have.
we will give your players the most shizzz and get them to climb the wall between us.but at the end of the day we always thank teams for playing us clean (except cats).

who is loudest?? who cares knows but i think the louder we are the more proud and thats what i love about griz gameday.

Played for UNC.... When we got into the redzone it was honestly the loudest thing I've ever heard in my life. I've been to my fair share of concerts, played at Purdue, Hawaii, and they were not EVEN close. I literally could not here my teammate yelling at me in my face. It literally hurts your ears.
