It IS the first legit title contender that they will play. Weber, EWU, SDSU, and SFA are all decent, but they are not on the same level as ASU. We'll see how they stack up on saturday.

I agree. ASU will be the best team Montana has faced all year. But that doesn't mean that Montana won't win.
Having said that, I'm picking ASU and Villanova to win close games.
DJH wrote:No, they played and beat Richmond, a legit title contender.
If Richmond was a legit title contender, then so was SFA, UNH and SIU.
Of the remaining 8 teams I thought 7 had a legit shot at the title. I did not think SFA was one of the seven.
Of the remaining 4, there is no clear favorite - or underdog IMHO.

SDSU probably didn't have a "legit shot" either, in your mind.

Interesting. I looked at it that Montana has to play a very good game because they were playing the #1 offense in the nation. With the weapons they possess they would never be out of any game. IMO

Why is that so **** hard to understand? Is it the UNI education that makes you not get it?
Dont worry........there is a chance there football team will be dropped so we don't have to listen to this useless (wish we could win a championship) crap.

ASU doesn't need another "mouth piece"...

I'm not sure why you are laughing. Is this a smack thread and I'm missing the point? Or are we trying to have a football discussion.
I thought that the top 7 teams (UM, SIU, ASU, Villanova,W&M, Richmond, UNH) were more than just a little better than the rest. I did not have SDSU in that group. Just my opinion.

I completely agree. Of the teams in the playoffs, those teams were the only ones capable of winning it all IMO.

I didn't. I thought UM would win easily, not as easily as they did, but easily just the same.

C'mon Z - we dropped a top 6 team in Elon handlily, a 10-1 MEAC team ranked #7 with AE a non factor, and a one loss Richmond team in the last 4 weeks. Do you really think that UM is the only legit title contender ASU has faced?

So what you're saying is the committee loaded the bracket in UM's favor by putting three patsies (SFA, SDSU, EWU) in their 1/4 of the bracket, thus letting Montana skate into the semis once again. Funny, because before the playoffs started, there were a fair number of people who were just CERTAIN that SDSU was gonna come in here and show Montana how "real" football is played, blathering on and on about how they almost took down Minnesota, and about how tough SIU was, etc., etc. Shit gets old....fast.
Honestly, if Montana beats ASU next weekend, all the Griz haters will find some reason to discount the victory....and it'll probably start with "they haven't had to play a CAA team...."
But you're right about one thing. It is just an opinion....just like mine.

Big deal. We put 61 on the #5 ranked defense, then shut out the top ranked offense. And we all know Elon is soft and MEAC teams are overrated. And seriously, you're putting ELON and SC STATE into the "legit title contender" discussion? You just lost all credibility, my friend.

Elon lost in a blocked field goal to UR, my friend. You guys have had to rally to win several times this year, and cudos to that. If the Jackrabbits had any defensive coaching you'd have been watching these games as an outside spectator this weekend. Elon has been a top 10 program all season, and SCSU has been at least top 12. Both were great teams, but met a team slightly better. Ask the Richmond guys how we stack up against the CAA foes they've had - no transitive properties obviously, but I think ASU did something only one of them could do this season - walk away with the W.
Elon and SCSU both made it to the playoffs, by the way, so weren't they by default legitimate title contenders? Check your own credibility.

"any defensive coaching"? You mean that guy coaching the #5 ranked defense in the FCS? The one the Griz scored 40 unanswered on?
And while I might agree that Elon and SC State were "legitimate title contenders", apparently some CAA fans had narrowed the list to SEVEN before a playoff game had even been played, and none of Montana's opponents made the short list. Translation: it's been cupcake city for the Griz into the semi's.
edit: oh, and neither did Elon or SC State.

I wouldn't call any playoff team a patsie. I just identified 7 playoff teams that I though had a reasonable chance to win the whole thing, and 9 that I didn't. If the committee gave UM a favorable seed, good for UM, they are the #1 seed.

Oh well, we're 2-1 vs. UR in the last 3 yrs. You?
Yeah? What's your record against Montana?
