Actually, my dreams have tended to involve females near my own age. I'm sure I did dream about 13 and 14 year old girls when I was around that age. If I did now, though, it would not concern me because 13 and 14 year old girls are likely to be reproductively mature. I would never mess with a 13 or 14 year old girl in real life. There are severe consequences to that. Even if there weren't, I am faithful to my wife. I made certain vows and I intend to keep them.

However, I would not be concerned about my biological or psychological health if I did have dreams about sexual encounters with teenaged girls who appeared in my dreams to be sexually mature females.

Again. Amazing that a thread on estimated IQs of different catergories of people has gone in this direction. But that's what happens.

I'll have to go back and see what I wrote to make you think I'm confident about the peer review process. I've written a number of times in the past on the AGS board that the "peer review" process associated with scientific journals is highly overrated in terms of being some kind of quality control process. I think that there are plenty of things that are not published in peer review journals that are valid and plenty of things that are published in peer review journals that are not valid.

I think the idea that "peer review" means "credibility" and absence of "peer review" means "no credibility" is one of the biggest myths of our time.

In all seriousness, conks tend toward greater practical thinking and deciveness both of which are excellent leadership and business management qualities. And the same can be said for empathy. It doesn't hurt in either politics or business to be a little lacking in that department.

If the idea of peer review is that it's supposed to weed out invalid crap it doesn't work. It is not a serious quality control process. That's what I'm getting at. I'll read stuff in the media about the "rigorous" peer review process. It's not. It's mostly about format and following the rules of publication plus having somethiing that either doesn't disturb the opinions of the editorial board or flatters them. The first thing is that the editorial board has to find it interesting and have a desire to publish it. Then it goes through review by a handful of people who aren't really going to subject it to a fine toothed comb unless they happen to be predisposed to disagree with the conclusions.

What I'm talking about when I talk about stuff that isn't peer reviewed is the automatic dismissal of anything at all because it was not published in a peer reviewed journal. So in the "climate change" debate, for instance, arguments by people like Richard Lindzen and Roy Spencer are dismissed because they weren't made in that context. Well, the editors control what gets into peer reviewed journals and they are up front about the fact that validity isn't even the [first]criterion.[/quote] Besides that there is all sorts of technical literature out there produced by people who are not making journal publication their objective.

I've never said it's necessarily a choice. I believe innate inclination is definitely a factor. What I've said before is that the relatively high rate at which identical twins who are homosexual are both homosexual if one is suggests that there is a predisposition in at least some cases. At the same time, I think that if it were completely predetermined and environment was not a factor, the rate would be a lot higher than it is. It would approach 100%. But even saying "environmental factors" are involved doesn't mean it's a choice. I don't mean to say that I know it's never a choice. But I do believe that there are certainly a lot of cases in which it is not.
