4-star reciever transfers to ODU

Post by ODUalum11 »

Here's his profile on scout.com...

http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p= ... id=3429729" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Heastie recieved several offers from SEC schools including Florida, Alabama, Tennessee as well as USC and Virginia Tech. Scout.com had him as a top 10 WR in the class of 2009.

This is a tremednous pick-up for the Monarchs but his discipline is a major issue. Hopefully Coach Wilder can keep him out of trouble and hopefully Heastie himself can stay out of trouble.

"Heastie is a competitor. He is always trying to prove that he is the best and is willing to work on whatever he needs to do to get better. He is a tremendous deep threat with deceptive speed. He is a long strider who hits that next gear an blows by people. Shows tremendous explosion and will go up and get the ball. He needs to work on his strength to get seperation at the next level. Tremendous route runner who is very polished." ...from scout.com

I bet those return trips are going to really piss off the season ticket holders.

ODU advertises itself as the "Iowa of the East". Opposing coaches then lined up their teams to play against the best outside of the real state of Iowa because everyone knows a game anywhere in Iowa could get lesser players and coaches killed.
These signatures have a 500 character limit?

What if I have more personalities than that?

well in regards to our schedule...VMI, Savannah State, Jacksonville are all returning trips to Norfolk. As we are returning trips to Monmouth, Campbell, and NC Central. We dropped Georgetown for Hampton which is only about 25-30 minute drive from ODU's norfolk campus. And we're playing Gardner Webb, WM, Cal Poly, and GSU for the first time.

So in the end, I think thats how we're able to get 7 home games this year but like its already been said, we'll probably have a lot of away games next year...I'm not sure which schools we'll be returning trips to. I think WM, GSU, Cal Poly, and GWU.

in regards to heastie, if he can just stay out of trouble and out of Wilder's doghouse this is an amazing pick-up. we'll have a great group of recievers which is exactly what we need since Demarco ran the ball a lot last year and Blackman is turning out to be a great pick-up at QB as well.

Hey futurealum, where does it say he's trasferred to ODU? All I've heard are the rumors but nothing concrete...

edit: lol nevermind, I saw the sentence in the story. GREAT pick-up!

edit 2: well nevermind again:
As for where they will go now, it seems Logan Heastie will head back to his home state of VIRGINIA to play for the upstart OLD DOMINION Monarchs.
Looks like we'll get him, but it's not confirmed, right?

yeah doesn't look like its confirmed but it does look like a great possibility that it will be. This also reminds me, Dominik Davenport, another ODU transfer from West Virginia will be reunited with a teammate.

And not only that, but Cal Poly got a West Virginia transfer too in running back Mark Rodgers. Kinda funny how they'll all be reunited in Norfolk. Davenport will probably go up against Rodgers though...should be interesting.

He just wants to play football and doesn't sound like a slacker at all. Logan asked for a release and it was granted. We still need to get him enrolled, but he was a good student and not a problem.

This taken Times West Va last fall.
"It was obvious right from the start that Heastie, who wore No. 2 on his white practice jersey, was a talent as he began running patterns and if not began catching passes at least began catching on.

What wasn’t obvious, however, was the far better news that would emerge after practice.

The kid is better off the field than on.

He’s intelligent, articulate and determined, the kind of kid Stewart promised he’d be bringing into the program.

The first tipoff to just what kind of kid West Virginia has landed came when he explained how it came about that he graduated early from Great Bridge High in Chesapeake, Va.

“I knew I was going to graduate early after the 10th grade,” he explained.

While most kids don’t have a clue what they’re doing on Saturday night, Heastie was looking two years into the future.

“I saw the benefits from graduating early,” he said. “I noticed that guys who graduated early and got to spring practice got on the field earlier. The earlier you can get on the field, the earlier you can start scoring touchdowns.”

So determined was Heastie that he spent the summer of his sophomore year and his junior year in summer school, taking classes so he get to the college of his choice — it would turn out to be West Virginia but he hardly knew it then — early.

Heastie had already showed the coaching staff just how dedicated he is. He showed up in Morgantown weighing about 179 pounds. When he went onto the field, he was up to 200.

“We lifted three times a week. That was a beast,” he said.

It's a bit of a quirk. W&M is playing the tail end of a home-and-home, but we opted out of the first game at W&M last year and paid CCSU $60,000 to take our place. We replaced that road game last year with a D-II opponent that we paid $15,000. We are paying Cal Poly $53,000 to come out and play us this season with no return game.
That is how we ended up with 7 home games in 2009 and 2010. It certainly helps to have the attendance to help pay for all that.

Yeah the "it seems" comment makes me wonder if they are just throwing out ODU as it's in close proximity to Chesapeake. If he wants to play next year, FCS is the obvious choice... but is he going to chose ODU because he lives 20 minutes down the road? No offense to ODU, but you figure he'd choose an FCS school where he could contend immediately instead of waiting another year until ODU joins the CAA. If he lands at ODU, it's a huge pick up and may signal the changing of the tides of 757 recruits choosing ODU over other VA FCS programs. ODU has to show they can win in the CAA with those kids they have now before I'd be concerned.
