Who's in and Who's out?
Who do you guys think are the last teams in with #11 Elon, #12 W&M, #14Furman, #18 Tenn. St.(was in first place in their conference where whoever wins gets an automatic bid) losing going into the last weekend?

I would think that with UMass getting slapped that helped W&M and Elon for At Large births. Will be an important day next Saturday for some.

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Do you think #19 Harvard will make it? I think Harvard will probably be #15 once the regular season is over since #15 and #16 from this past week play each other and with all those #10-20 teams losing.....I think it was 4 of them. W&M has Richmond next weekend so they will probably be 7-4 after next weekend. I don't think W&M will make it unless they beat Richmond. Elon I think will make it, they should only lose one spot at the most since they almost beat App. St. and #12 W&M got killed and #14 lost as well.

Harvard is probably deserving, but they can't be selected because of Ivy League rules.

Ivy league doesn't participate in playoffs. Apparently ivy league finals cancel out playoffs, very understandable! lol

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
I was just reading that Central Arkansas is not eligible to even be conference champion (even by name) due to NCAA rules. This is evidently because they are transitioning up to FCS, and there is a time period in which they are not eligible for any of that, so my understanding is that includes not being eligible for post-season.

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Central Arkansas cannot get a playoff spot because they are in transition.
Texas State gets the bid if they beat Sam Houston Saturday.
If Texas State loses and McNeese St wins then the Cowboys get the bid.
If both teams lose then it turns into a cluster fuck.

Same reason NDSU wasn't eligible last year...even as some folks had them ranked in the top 5 in polls...happyappy99 wrote:I was just reading that Central Arkansas is not eligible to even be conference champion (even by name) due to NCAA rules. I don't see them on any major polls...so I doubt the committee will snatch them out from no where for a slot...GamecockFan71 wrote:Anyone have any thoughts on Jacksonville State? Perriloux turned out to be a very good acquisition after his problems at LSU.

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Jacksonville State could have been a dark horse if they hadn't lost to both EKU & UTM. As a result, whoever loses the OVC title game should be considered ahead of JSU. That basically means the Gamecocks don't have any chance at all.GamecockFan71 wrote:Anyone have any thoughts on Jacksonville State? Whoever wins between UTM and EKU is in with the autobid. It's an alimination game. The loser is done. The winner loses to SIU in the first round of the playoffs.godukes wrote:that sucks.........Who do you guys think will get in McNeese St. or Central Arkansas.........also Tenn-Martin or Eastern Kentucky?

Who do you think SIU will face in the first round? For JMU I am thinking the winner of the Holy Cross/Colgate game. I am also thinking the winner of Tenn-Martin/Eastern Kentucky game, but those teams I think are ranked higher than Holy Cross and Colgate. I was thinking maybe Texas State, but they are so far away so they will probably play Weber State in the first round if they make it.

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Montana State will get serious consideration for the last spot in if they beat Montana. That will make the Cats 8-4 and 6-2. Two losses are to BCS-conference schools (Kansas State and Minnesota) and the other two to Big Sky champ Weber State and Eastern Washington (the killer loss). But, MSU will have won 5 in a row and will have beaten current #5 Montana at their place. In addition, MSU will make a strong bid to host a first round game and back it up with a big crowd in Bozeman, something the NCAA committee likes to see.
A long shot - sure, but possible IF MSU beats UM 19-17 as predicted.

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Sorry cat fan. You MUST have 7 FCS wins to qualify for playoffs. Beating UM would POTENTIALLY give you 7, my guess is you finish with 6. There's hope, but it won't last past the first half on Saturday. Plus, there's better teams out there at 8-4 than MSU. Your season is over now, but come Saturday, it'll REALLY be over. Your team turns the ball over WAY too much to compete.

If UTM wins they go to SIU and JMU plays Elon or someone on the east coast.
If EKU wins they might end up at JMU and SIU could be traveling depending on their opponent.
The Holy Cross / Colgate winner will likely play either UNH or Nova.
Texas State flies to Weber State, Montana or Cal Poly.

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Yea I don't like the fact they do it based on location. Elon should win this weekend and will be ranked probably 11th. A #1 ranked team shouldn't play the #11/#12 ranked team in the first round in a 16 team bracket.

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Beating Montana would actually give the Bobcats just 6 DI wins since South Dakota is a non-counter this year. Based on that, their playoff hopes are essentially nil.Montucky wrote:Sorry cat fan. Here's my prediction of who is in...and those who is out...
Top four seeds, in order
JMU - Who else can claim #1 spot
ASU - Who else could claim #2 spot
Montana - Gut feel - I know Weber beat them, but I'm betting the Committee seeds the Griz
SIU - Again, gut feel, the committee will seed one MVFC team
The rest of the field (in no order)
Weber
SCSU
Cal Poly
Wofford
Colgate
UNI
Tenn-Martin
Maine
Richmond
Villanova
Texas St
Elon
Chop away.....

I see Maine defeating UNH this week...UMass totally fell apart against UNH, so don't use that game as a basis to believe UNH is that good...AZGrizFan wrote:My perfect field. No UNH. Love Maine, Richmond, and 'Nova.Col Hogan wrote:Here's my prediction of who is in...and those who is out...

Re: Who's in and Who's out?
Apparently you're saying that because South Dakota is in its transition period as far as their playoff eligibility is concerned that they don't count as an FCS opponent even though they are now an FCS team playing in an FCS conference. I don't think that is correct, which would mean that MSU currently has 6 FCS wins and a win against UM would give MSU 7 wins, thus making the 'required 7 FCS wins' issue moot.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Beating Montana would actually give the Bobcats just 6 DI wins since South Dakota is a non-counter this year. If you can provide a link to the NCAA site where they indicate whether or not a transitional school counts as an FCS opponent in regard to a opponent attaining the necessary 7 DI wins, whether FCS or FBS, I'd be interested in seeing it. Thanks.
