MSU Bobcat Stadium Expansion
MSU Bobcat Stadium Expansion
After going through the JMU expansion thread again, I got to wondering about MSU and theirs. Are they still sure it's gonna happen? If so, when? I know it was in extensive phases spanning quite a few years but if it's happening shouldn't they be starting it? The plans look gorgeous, so I hope they can come through and make it happen.

MSU has the wrong idea IMO, they shouldnt tear down the visiting sdline grandstand, they should keep it and start from there.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they are. Just adding to it.

I have no idea what Falkin is talking about.
And to answer the question, it all depends on when the money is raised, from interviews with the AD it's hard to tell how close it is. There's good money coming in but it's being earmarked toward too many different projects, IMO. Everything from the indoor practice field to a new basketball scoreboard.

if you give credence to the rumor mill, they're still in part 3 of a 12 part "quiet period".
Re: MSU Bobcat Stadium Expansion
Kinda like the rumor that Ted Turner was gonna foot the whole bill but wanted to use his own design and construction crews so MSU turned him down.Montanan wrote:if you give credence to the rumor mill, they're still in part 3 of a 12 part "quiet period".

I follow the subject occasionally on bobcatnation. Most everyone thinks new boxes are needed desperately, but that added seats would be a waste of money since they do not sell out as is.

Why are new boxes needed? I thought the press-box was relatively new and pretty darn nice?

They would be adding 38 sky suites on two levels above the existing east grandstand. It would bring in an approx. $500,000 per/yr.

Hmmm. And most folks feel this is the #1 priority?Catattack wrote:EWURanger wrote:

The money from the additiional boxes would be used to fund the rest of the expansion.

No, I'm not a genius, but I do know where the visiting section is and whether they are just planning on adding a seatback section that is now the student section.
Re: MSU Bobcat Stadium Expansion
The additional sky suites will be constructed independently above the current student side stands. Down the road the student section will be replaced (#1 they need it and #2 the seating angle has to match the booster side in order to bowl the two sides together.

"We have exceeded the $10 million goal," said Montana State University Foundation president and CEO Michael Stevenson. "Construction bids are being formalized, and we will have a new end zone at the beginning of the 2011 football season."
A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for January 28, and a public dedication is expected in the fall. A photo gallery and webcam will be available at http://www.msubobcats.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; when construction begins
Foundation officials reiterated that the purpose of the stadium project is four-fold: increase student access, increase affordable access for the community, enhance the game day experience and provide added scholarship and financial support.
Preliminary plans show an end zone seating configuration designed to provide fans with the best sightlines. The project oversight committee, after numerous discussions with the architects and the general contractor, is considering the use of higher-quality construction materials for the grandstands, such as pre-cast concrete. Schematics are still being finalized and are expected to be released at the end of January or the beginning of February.

Re: MSU Bobcat Stadium Expansion
Agreed, this looks awesome. Kudos to MSU for raising the money to do this. I hope something even half as decent is down the road for EWU.

Rumor has it that the final donations came from Griz eager to get MSU to the point where they can move up...

Re: MSU Bobcat Stadium Expansion
I'm stoked for this, since I'd like to see MSU expand their stadium.
I always hated sitting on those endzone death trap bleachers they made the Griz fans sit in every other year. Was joking with some guys in the band back in 2007 when I went out there that one of these years they'd all die in a horrific collapse.
