You are correct, this won't be an issue.

I don't even think it is going to matter if the Nats have a hint at the playoffs. They've said all along that Strasburg is on an inning limit this season, and that includes what he already pitched in the minors, so he could be done come September or so. They only plan to allow him to pitch 150-160 innings this year combined between majors/minors, or 100-110 left to pitch in the majors. There was talk of moving him to the bullpen at the 140 inning mark IF the Nats are in playoff contention, but that still seems unlikely. The Nat's know they aren't going to go deep in the playoffs even if they make it there. He's there for the long term, they aren't going to hurt their chances of that by being greedy this year.

Hey, I have a Nats Inaugural Season pennant hanging in my office. I still root for the Phillies first, but the Nats have replaced that worthless team in Baltimore as my #2. I also root for the caps as a #2 because they better they are, the more hockey coverage I get here. I wear my Flyers jersey to Caps games when they are in town, but wear red the other games.

The Redskins on the other hand... I root for them too... to go 0-16 every year.

I don't think he ever had the control though. Most impressive stat last night was NO walks. Throwing that nasty stuff with no walks?

So he's going up against the Indians in his next start - any idea when he'll face a real honest to goodness major league lineup? No offense to the Pirates and Indians, but they aren't even top level Triple A teams right now. I think this kid is the real deal, but I would still like that confirmed after handling a real major league offense.

Well, all the other pitchers in the league get to pitch against those guys too, don't they?

Of course they do - but even Jamie Moyer would be a 20 game winner if that's all he'd face. Like I said, I think the kid's legit, I just am looking forward to seeing it proven out against a major league lineup.

While it's highly unlikely they will even sniff at the playoffs this year, it is possible (ask Travis for the meaning of 'possible'). They are only 4 games behind the Phils and 6.5 out of the wild card. And they have the Mets in the same division, which is nothing but a good thing for everyone in that division when it gets down towards the end of the season.

How is it crazy to want to see the guy's talent validated versus legitimate competition? I too am eager to see how he handles a decent lineup.

Jamie Moyer would STILL give up an average of 8 homeruns a game if that's all he'd face.

No way, I actually respect those too, even if they are UD fans. GF is quite knowledgeable (although his hatred for JMU is absurdly transparent!) and 93 makes me laugh almost as much as SH.

I'll only pull out the JJoo card when your bias is showing.

You're missing out on Jamie Moyer's resurgence - he's posted two complete games already this year (one a shutout nonetheless), his ERA is below 4.00, and is WHIP is a crazy 1.07. And all that without facing the Pirates or the Indians (or even the Orioles, who Strausberg will get in his 4th start).

I actually haven't paid him any attention this year, other than the fact that I heard recently about him giving up the most homeruns ever. So I ran with that. :D

Not sure if you know, but how many other pitchers this year in all of MLB have had 14 strikeouts in one game? Just curious...

What I really loved was how he absolutely shut the team down after he gave up that homerun. It was like that just pissed him off and made him more motivated. And he just got better as the night went on, ending with 7 straight strikeouts and he struck out every single batter in the lineup (I haven't seen any other pitchers do that).

There could not have been any more pressure put on this kid. No one would have blamed him if he went out there last night and just got blown apart. After all, what do you expect from a 21 year old kid? And I know that it is all the trend these days to hate success and hype, but he lived up to the hype last night and surpassed it.

Anyways, yes, he is going to have his off nights. And I'm sure the Travis's, Alphie's and Clenz's of the world will pounce all over those. But he is the real deal. He's already got a mix of pitches that other pitchers can only cream, er, dream about. He is humble and seems to understand that he still has alot to learn about baseball at this level. Only time will tell if he can turn that ungodly talent into a great career. It's going to be fun to actually have something to watch in DC besides AL/NL East teams swamping our ballpark!
au contraire my friend.

I said going into last night I hope he does well. However, I would love to see the media reaction if he failed...and thanks to the media I woudln't have minded seeing him fail.

I'm not like Travis and alphie. I understand baseball better than either one of them could ever hope too.
