When I was at Towson, the first day is check in, equipement assigned, meetings, physical, weight lifting tests(bench, incline, squat) and running test (12 minute run) and more meetings.
The schedule that mlbowl posted bor Montana look idea for players. WTF? We had two a days straight through, with an afternoon or two off here or there.
Oh and Towson reported on Wednesday.
Seriously - what a panzy practice schedule.
We had two-a-days when I played and I think UA still does for the most part.
A lot less hitting now then even when I played, but still more practice time than Montana has.
Albany reports the 8th with first practice monday the 9th.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. - Coach Finstock

Granted this was D3, but that is what reporting day was like when I was at Wartburg College.
From some players I've talked to at UNI, it sounds pretty close to what UNI does as well.
FWIW, I don't think ODU has two-a-days either but I think thats because in Norfolk, in August it is hot as...well you know and very humid.
I think there might be a few days where they have early practices in the morning and then another practice at Foreman in the afternoon but thats not everyday.

Seriously. I've never seen a summer schedule set up like that. Three two a days. I'm not saying Towson is running The Junction Boys type camp, but there are two practices a day for 90% of the time. Why even call it camp, unless they are doing arts and crafts in the morning and then practicing after lunch.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Maybe all those 2-a-days fried your brain...Seriously, though, where did you come up with 3?...it's 1 a day for the first week...then 2 a days every other day for weeks 2, 3, and 4...I counted 6.

I didn't read it closely, after further review, there are 6 days. Which is still just a few. I'm not saying its a bad thing, I can definately see the advantages to it. I'm just saying from my experience, this is not the norm for a summer camp schedule. I mean even HS's do a week or two of two a days. With a new coach you'd think the extra reps would be benificial to installing the playbook.
BTW, the absolute worst feeling in the world is to be in a full sweat, in full pads at 9am, and practice hasn't even started.

Not exactly sure what the rule book says but each team can only have a certian number of practices and the NCAA says two a days cannot be back to back. The days of two a day hell weeks are over due to the deaths over the last few years.

That's a rule I didn't know about. Montana's practice schedule makes more sense to me now.

I hear ya Andy...I can't really relate as I never played college ball...but I do remember 2 a days in H.S.

This could very well be true. If it's a recent rule, I wasn't aware of it. And it just proves my theory that players today are soft.
First bull in the ring, now two a days. WTF is this world coming to?

"Most significant was a 2003 rule change by the NCAA which prohibits two-a-days in the first five days of practice and consecutive days of two-a-days. So if your camp opens three weeks before school starts, you’re likely looking at no more than six opportunities for two-a-days. Additionally, teams are allowed only 29 practice opportunities prior to the first game."

Soft.

The 2010-11 athletics year at Appalachian State University kicked off on Friday afternoon when Appalachian football held its first practice of the year.
ASU football opened fall camp with a two-and-a-half-hour practice at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The first practice of the year immediately followed the conclusion of final exams for summer school, allowing the Mountaineers to focus exclusively on their work on the gridiron until ASU's fall semester begins on Aug. 24.
"It was a great first day," head coach Jerry Moore said. "The players came in in great condition and ready to work and it was a nice, crisp day of practice."
The Apps worked out in helmets and shorts on Friday, which it will do again on Saturday before strapping on shoulder pads for two more days. The first day of full pads is Tuesday, followed by the first day of two-a-day practices on Wednesday.
