Of course, it's someone from Montana so that puts it into a questionable light. nova's basketball crowds in Philly are not just "nova" crowds - it's a college basketball town and plenty of non-nova people make up those crowds. And they typically come when nova is very good, as they didn't sell out the Pavillion and had plenty of empty seats in the Wachovia when they weren't good. And when Big East football was being played in Philly before (under Temple) no one showed up, except for when Penn St played. So they aren't just going to show up because the names of Delaware, JMU, and Richmond are replaced with Syracuse, Rutgers, and Cincinnati. So, for it to succeed, nova needs to be a national football power, year in and year out. Do you think that's going to happen in a crumbling Big East and in a soccer stadium in Chester? That's not the typical recipe for becoming a football power.
Not a snow balls chance in hell the Big East offers Nova a spot, despite the delusionment of Fact or any other Nova fans who think it could happen.
-The Big East has offered it before when they were in a much better position.
-No Villanova people who know dick are saying anything about PPL Park
-Franklin Field (Which is already being renovated.) would be a temporary solution until a stadium either on campus or nearby is finished or until Temple's lease expires with the Linc (The situation with Radnor has changed, they could use the money.)
-The Big East would surely accept 25,000.
Aren't there definitely positives working in Villanova's favor to move up? Like academic prestige, the Philadelphia TV Market, and the wealth of top football talent within 50 miles?

No way the Big East accepts a 25k seat stadium. That is about 1/2 the average stadium size in the BE and would be by far the smallest stadium capacity in a BCS conference.

- 25,000 is only 10k less than the max capacity at Cincinatti.. Ok, Maybe 25k was a bad number, but they could easily get away with 28-30k as Wallace Wade Stadium at Duke and BB&T field at Wake have capacities at 31k and 33k respectively in the ACC.. Martin Stadium at Washington State has a capacity of 35k.. so they don't need a behemoth. All they need is to maximize the current space they have, which could very easily be done by moving the running track to west campus where the soccer fields are and building around the end zones.

Re: Big East Football discusses Nova Option
Villanova football moving to the Big East would really throw Delaware and it's fans for a loop. All excuses as they pertain to Nova (schedulling, alignment, etc) would be out the window. And with Hofstra gone, the New England schools dropping like flies, and JMU looking like they are positioning themselves for a move up......the Blue Hen program may suddenly find itself on a lonely island in the FCS sea.

Hey, if people want to move up, more power to them. As you can see, we still haven't recovered from UConn moving up. How could we possibly recover from Villanova moving back to FBS? Oh the humanity!

Re: Big East Football discusses Nova Option
Yeah, VU leaving would absolutely kill UD FB. Afterall, we depend so heavily on the revenue of VU fans filling our stadium once every two years. Oh, wait, that's what we do on the Main Line.
UD FB has withstood the loss of our chief historic rivals, Temple, Lehigh and (once before) Villanova. We'll do quite fine should VU repeat Temple's mistake. They can have at it.
As for HU, URI and NU leaving, that will have far more of a financial impact on UMaine than UD, especially with ODU and GSU coming on. The net effect on UD is the elimination of one additional flight from our schedule. UMaine will be adding a flight each year. UD's in a great position, being located in the direct center of the conference footprint.
JMU isn't going anywhere into the foreseeable future, nor apparently is ODU or UD. However, all appear to be making and planning significant upgrades to their stadiums. Those who aren't considering similar investments will probably have to look elsewhere in the not too distant future.

MJ's starting to get like umassfan - getting all non-sensical and crazy whenever he talks about UD football. How else can you come up with the idea that nova moving to FBS would somehow serve as the deathknell for UD football? MJ, I love ya and I certainly like playing Maine in football, but at times you are just plain looney when it comes to discussing UD sports.

Well, you are factually correct in pointing out that Maine peaked in the '01 and '02 seasons. And while they haven't been a great team since then, I do think they've been at least decent.89Hen wrote:No, no, no... How so? There are still plenty of quality FCS programs near Delaware for the Hens to schedule. The New England schools could all shut down, JMU and Nova could both move up and the Hens will be just fine.mainejeff wrote:Villanova football moving to the Big East would really throw Delaware and it's fans for a loop. I'm not talking about Delaware scheduling OOC games.......I'm talking about the CAA membership and the effects on Delaware if Maine, UNH, UMass, Villanova, JMU, ODU, and Georgia State eventually depart, dipsh*t.
