@clenz Clearly your quote makes total sense, since SBU was a tipped INT away from defeating U Mass (we led in the 4th quarter), and U Mass gave up 200+ rushing yards on fewer than 30 attempts (that, for you math buffs our there, is 6+ yards a carry). Compare that to ~185 yards on 49 attempts for U Mass (<4 yards a carry). Clear domination by U Mass really.... Now grow up and run along back to a conference you know anything about before I start commenting on Northern Iowa's loss to Southern Illinois (now many D1 wins to they have? 2?). You don't see me passing naive comments on MVFC topics, I expect at least some cursory research before you post on BigSo teams. @Thumper 76 - raise your hand if you team actually has a chance of going to the playoffs this year?
Are the better teams in the top 4 conferences better than the top end of the Big South? Sure. No indication has been given to the contrary. However, would they be routs? Not likely, and most trends indicate the gap is closing quickly. I should remind you that Stony Brook has only been full scholly for 2 years, and I believe this year is the first one to have all Chuck Priore recruited players. Patience. A 20+ million dollar athletic budget like those at SBU and Liberty will bring in good talent. Just have to wait a bit to get yours.
As for SBU @ Liberty - we got the same song and dance from Liberty fans all of last season, then heard about the "fluke" loss. Are we in VA for this one? Sure. Did they beat a sub 63 scholarship team 2 years ago? Yes. Does this mean the same route is in store? Based on a comparison of how we've done against the same schools in our conference...not likely. Speaking about how you're not afraid of this game as just as naive as our fans saying it's a given we'll win. It's a very nice matchup, and I'm hoping for a close and exciting game with no injuries - since let's face it, no matter the team, injuries suck.
In Summary - quit being arrogant schmucks (on both sides, we have nothing to boast about after the Lafayette loss), and we'll see you on the gridiron. Go Brook.
@Redwyn, I would put money on SDSU bending SB over their knee this year, and we are having a down year.
I would also say I'm willing to put a lot of money on situations that I know would never come to fruition (SBU playing SDSU this year).
SDSU is a fine team, the athletic program has a significantly better winning tradition than has been shown at SBU thus far, and I don't believe any of my posts speak differently. The themes of my response are simple: any given saturday, and people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I think you meant CCU. If Charleston Southern defeats Coastal Carolina and Liberty wins the matchup against Stony Brook, then Liberty receives the AQ. Stony Brook controls their destiny.
Thank you for the correction - yes, it would be Coastal Carolina that would have to lose.

While I do agree with sbufan that Liberty has been poor against the run, I do admit Liberty has a chance of winning.
What I doubt, however, is that the margin will be great enough for them to get the autobid. They didn't beat us by that much when we were under-max scholly and a far weaker program 2 years ago.
I see it a close game with either side pulling out the win. The autobid will not be Liberty's on the tiebreaker. They have to win the game and CSU has to lose.
...but Liberty did beat SBU 33-0 2 years ago- pretty bad. Interestingly, Mike Brown was playing as a receiver/back that year.
What we are missing this year- a running game and some defense! Last year was much more even, with SBU logging 250+ yards of rushing. Again, Brown was not the QB. Looks like it will be about the same this year, and probably a close one as well. That being said, I hope this ends up like the LU-Elon game in '08. LU played arguably their best game of the year when #12 Elon came to Lynchburg and lost 26-3.

Go Liberty
Thanks clenz for the support! I was surprised to find someone else who is up for just about any FCS game.
CCU will take care of business and beat CSU soundly.
LU will beat SBU at home by 1 score.
SBU will get the auto bid.
LU will get consideration for an at large, and will get one!
OK, that is my opinion, so shoot me if you'd like. I think it will come down to LU being the committee's best choice for the last spot. However, if it does not happen, I'm OK with it since we didn't take care of business when we controlled our own destiny.

As i stated before, if we limit the stupid penalities, it will be a long day for LIB fans.
I love these.
What a great defensive team you have up on Long Island. LU had 54 points, 558 yards, haha.
OH and where's your great running game? 49 yards rushing?
Yep, long day for LU fans. We were staying up trying to figure out our at-large chances
Manson, you have just made my day. Also don't forget the 235 receiving yards and 2 TD's by our #2 WR. Not even the nations best in Chris Summers (high ankle sprain thanks to that royal douche down in Conway). My favorite part about the offense effort by SBU last night was watching their line TRY to block our defense, and watching Coulter run around for his life all night. That was a great effort by him to not get hospitalized.

You sure are right. But it sure does feel good.
So does Coastal's playoff bid.
Normally I try to stay away from these kinds of things but Liberty fans deserve every bit of **** they get thrown at them for a long time.
You play your football games in a field house. So we lost on the road on an early afternoon game. Liberty never plays well (after this season I believe we're 4-9) in games on the road that start before 3PM. Same story with our Robert Morris loss btw. But this thread isn't about LU vs. CCU. It's about LU vs. SBU. And that is why I enjoy this thread. Because Liberty finally played up to their potential. We'd seen them come close against Ball State. But finally they showed up and played like the team they were supposed to be all season long. An absolute shallacking. We gave up 49 rush yards against a team that has 2 RB's with 1,000+ season (Hofstra transfers). So yes, I will talk about this game, and enjoy it.
Especially since SBU had a bigger choke job than LU.
You have a beastly running team, and have to hold LU under 42 points, and can't do it. Ridiculous. Oh well. The Brook has been reduced to but a trickle.

And Coastal fans, players, staff and administration thank you for that!
