Okay, so one of the playin games has the Chanticleers vs. Leathernecks!!! You probably are wondering what a chanticleer is and you probably think you know what a Leatherneck is, but in both cases you are probably wrong.
I initially thought Chanticleer had everything to do with Pirates! But boy was I wrong about that! When I got to WIU in 1971 I thought Leatherneck had to do with the Marines and their sun burned necks, but I was wrong! Well it just so happens that a Chanticleer is an "aggressive rooster" and the name comes from the Cantebury Tales! Yes, Leathernecks refers to the Marine Corp and that is basically where the nickname came from but in reality, the term leatherneck refers to the leathernecks worn by the US Marines when fighting the Barberi Pirates in the middle 1800's. It seems that the Pirates first slash was at the neck and the leatherneck protected our Marines in hand to hand combat with these so called Pirates. There is a leatherneck at the entrance way to the Old Ironside museum at the Boston Naval Yard that totally tells the tale. So there you go football fans! Its the Leathercollars vs.the Game Roosters this coming Saturday in Conway SC.
Yes, Rock Hanson who was a World war I vet. and a Marine! The stadium is named for him! He was both football coach and athletic director in the 40's, 50's and 60's!

The only problem with that is the University of South Carolina are the Gamecocks so that is a pretty commonly heard phrase in this area. CCU fans don't like USC, so no one will buy into the "Cocks" reference. Just giving y'all a heads up on that!

Have you read that story? The "aggressive rooster" is made a fool and has his life saved by a woman after he does some foolish act. He is a coward. Our mascot is rdiculous.

Probably figured that since their campus has been closed for break all this past week, they wouldn't get much in terms of attendance, and even the minimum bid might have meant a probable financial loss.

The 20 degree weather up there wouldn't have helped attendance either. Sunny and 62 here in Myrtle Beach today.
This QB from Coastal looks awful--weak arm and makes far too many bad decisions. Their defense is playing very well though. The athleticism up front is very apparent.
