I doubt that.. Lehigh is better than you think.. they have definately improved since those early season whippings by Nova and UNH. I think it will be a pretty competitve game.89Hen wrote:WOW! Was on the road all day and just saw the results. Man does the MVFC suck this year.![]()

Lehigh? Seriously? Hens will put another 49-7ish whooping on them next week.

Agreed, they gave up 1000 yards in those two games, and nova's more of a defensive team. UD should win this by at least 28. It'll be 2000 all over again - Lehigh beats a MVFC (Gateway) team on the road in the first round, then gets routed in Newark. History repeats itself.89Hen wrote:Baloney.ChickenMan wrote:

History repeats itself? I hope were not playing GSU in the semisGannonFan wrote:Agreed, they gave up 1000 yards in those two games, and nova's more of a defensive team. He's old, Hen. "Five years ago" was a ballpark figure.89Hen wrote:Five years ago, as in when the Hens were 6-5?ngineer wrote:Five years ago we came to the TUB and lost a heartbreaker in OT.
Just referring to the last time these two teams played. If I recall, Hens' lost a bunch of close games that year and could easily have been 9-2. Regardless, we have the ability to win this game. On paper, we are major underdogs. But that's why we have schemes, strategies, and plans so that we don't just have a track meet. Our coaches did their homework on UNI, and I expect they will be doing the same with UD. Best of plans still have to be executed, and we actually failed to execute a good number of plays at UNI, mostly on offense. The key is the defense. If we can keep within 'sniffin' distance through the first half, look out. We have trailed at halftime in our last three games. Does UD have the capability of winning in a blow out? Yes. They have great athletes at key positions. But I've seen too many upsets in my years to not think the 'impossible' is doable.AZGrizFan wrote:He's old, Hen. This only furthers the cry from our fan base that has been building steam the last 4 or 5 years - the OC HAS to go. The problem is Farley is too damn loyal to any of this coaches and that will never happen. Our play calling was extremely predictable.AppStateAlumQC wrote:Congrats to Lehigh but damn UNI.....damn. I don't know if I'd blame the OC for Richmond, unless they were stuffing the run all night. Sounds more like an execution problem.clenz wrote:This only furthers the cry from our fan base that has been building steam the last 4 or 5 years - the OC HAS to go. Imagine Rennie in App State's system, I bet their OC could find a way to use him.
Let's go back to some of the bigger games in UNI's recent history and talk about the offensive play calling
2007 quarterfinals vs. Delaware:
First quarter UNI running back Corey Lewis runs for over 100 yards averaging something like 12 yards per carry in the quarter. I mean he made UD's defense look like a junior high defense. What do we do the rest of the game? Not give the freaking ball to Corey Lewis. The OC said it was because he saw UD's scheme changing to stop Corey.....but they had yet to actually stop him. We then stop using Corey giving Flacco all the TOP he wanted.
2008 semifinals vs. Richmond:
UNI takes the ball over leading by 6 with just over 2 minutes left. Richmond has all three timeouts left. What plays does UNI run? First and 10: sweep to the right - TO Richmond. Second and 12ish: Off tackle Right - TO Richmond. Third and 10: Dive - TO Richmond. We use 15 freaking seconds off the clock. Richmond takes over with about 2:06 - after a shank of a punt - and...well...you know the rest.
2009 - just a disastrous season with the talent we had on offense
2010: Coaches can't pick a QB the first 5 games of the season. That leads to no rhythm for either one, and a 2-3 start. Finally settle on a QB, but then don't run plays that fit him. Rennie isn't a QB that is a drop back passer, it will never end well when that happens but we tried time after **** time to make him one. His best pass plays came off of roll outs with a run pass option where defenses had to pick their poison. After every single game this year, if I saw it on person or online, whether we won or lost, I wondered what the **** just happened on offense.
There are probably 20 other games I could point out but not worth it as nothing will come of it.
There are lots of good DCs out there too. Gotta execute.DJH wrote:The richmond game was not the OC's fault. Our players blew numerous opportunities in that game. Pat Grace overthrew Herring for what would have been a deep bomb TD. Grace dropped a pass on a trick play that would have been a TD. Hallgren missed a couple of makable FGs.
And as for the last sequence, I thought the play calling was decent. I probably would have thrown the ball on 3rd down to try to get the first down and win the game, but running it wasn't a terrible decision. Richmond just did an excellent job stopping us on that series. Even after all that, our defense could have stopped them to win the game.
The play calling in general has been hit and miss over the last several years, but overall I think we do a good job. This year, however, was just a season long mismanagement of everything on offense...
