This. It will be interesting to see how big UM losses to Tennessee. Finally everyone gets to see how they will do against an FBS team.dbackjon wrote:Griz will star 0-4. Miss playoffs again

Already back pedaling to 2-2 huh? No deal, I get 2-2 and 1-3.AZGrizFan wrote:I'll put $20 on 2-2 or better. You get 1-3 & 0-4.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:

Deal?

Normally I wouldn't be too worried. Figure we would do like most teams by keeping it reasonable through the first half, but starting a new QB next year will be rough.SDHornet wrote:This. We just played Iowa several years ago.... and Oregon before that...SDHornet wrote:This. It will be interesting to see how big UM losses to Tennessee. Finally everyone gets to see how they will do against an FBS team.dbackjon wrote:Griz will star 0-4. Miss playoffs again

That is the part that baffles me. Unless O'Day is doing this as a fuck you to Engstrom, and trying to say, well, 7-4 is good enough for a Bowl...Silenoz wrote:We just played Iowa several years ago.... and Oregon before that...SDHornet wrote: This. And LOL at the D2 game. Isn't 90% of the reason we stayed FCS the playoffs? And yet we schedule ourselves 2 games out right of the bat, f#$king brilliant

Nope, because that means going 2-1, since the loss to Tennessee is pretty much a given.Screamin_Eagle174 wrote:Already back pedaling to 2-2 huh? No deal, I get 2-2 and 1-3.AZGrizFan wrote:

Going to try to make this one. It would be nice to see Missoula again before we all go to the split schedule conference slate. I'll check with my brother (Griz alum '92) and see if he's able to get tickets. I'm sure the earlier the better.nwFL Griz wrote:2011 MONTANA GRIZZLY FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

My luck though, Lookout will have 800 inches of snow and there will be 5 feet of ice in the Gorge.

Bolded games are the ones I'm going to try and make. Sac State & NAU are a done deal....want to get to Missoula on the 17th (it's my birthday), and I would KILL to be in Tennessee to watch that beatdown.nwFL Griz wrote:http://www.montanagrizzlies.com/news/?n ... /9388&m=37

You & missus have open invite to stay at Casa de Appa if the flight is cheaper through Charlotte. We're about 2 hrs from Knoxville.AZGrizFan wrote:Bolded games are the ones I'm going to try and make. Majority of I-AA don't schedule a Div II any more. Only one in the CAA to do it this past season was UD. Dumb to schedule a Div II which won't count as a win as far as the playoffs are concerned when you could schedule a cupcake I-AA that isn't any better than a Div II but counts as a win. Figured the Grizz would have learned their lesson this yr. If their Div II win had been a cupcake I-AA instead likely would have been in the playoffs. I imagine it would only take an additional 50k or so to get a patsy I-AA over what it costs to get a Div II. Montana has that kind of coin, and they'll make a lot more than 50k on a home playoff game. Any AD from a school who has a good chance on making the playoffs who schedules a Div II is a moron.Mvemjsunpx wrote:I agree that an FCS would be better than a DII, but why is that strange? 1 FCS, 1 FBS, and 1 DII is a pretty standard schedule for an FCS team.FargoBison wrote:So Montana is going to play an FBS and a DII? Beating Tennessee will be tough, going 7-2 in your other games won't be easy. NDSU pays a premium to bring in FCS teams for a something like $125-150k, why don't the Griz do the same. You gotta be clearing at least $125k more per home game than we do.

No they won't. The NCAA takes the vast majority of playoff game revenue.BDKJMU wrote:Majority of I-AA don't schedule a Div II any more. Only one in the CAA to do it this past season was UD. NCAA I believe takes 75% of gate or the bid, whichever is higher. So for Montana I imagine 25% of their gate is still a lot higher than 50k. Plus they probably make more than that in concessions..Mvemjsunpx wrote:No they won't. I think scheduling all FCS teams is a little more difficult in the west compared to the East. In all the Big Sky and Great West only 2 teams (Weber and PSU) did not have a DII or NAIA team on schedule. Weber and PSU both had 2 FBS games though.BDKJMU wrote: Majority of I-AA don't schedule a Div II any more. Only one in the CAA to do it this past season was UD. We don't have a bunch of NEC, Big South, Patriot League, MEAC, Pioneer League or Ivy League cupcakes with in bus distance of our schools. I have a feeling we have to pay a lot more to get those teams to Montana than JMU does.
If you are an AD of Morehead state and Montana and JMU come to you with a bid for equal $ to play them on a given day, what do you choose? A plane ride across the country or a bus trip down the road? How much more money does Montana have to cough up to win that battle? I would guess at least $50,000, but probably closer to $100,000.
The economics of it make better sense to play a DII. It sucks, but it is the reality.
Wrong.∞∞∞ wrote:Just play San Diego every year instead of a D2. Seems like a nice little Pioneer League school that'll bend over for a price and tell ya guys, "yes sir, may I have another?"
Where did you hear that San Diego wants home and homes? I've read it here about Dayton, but never about San Diego. But then again, I've never heard anything about San Diego...ever.clenz wrote:Wrong.∞∞∞ wrote:Just play San Diego every year instead of a D2. Teams like San Diego, Datyon, Drake, etc... all want straight home and homes.
Hell, Drake refuses to go to UNI to play unless it is part of a 2-1...where Drake gets the 2.
That is why UNI plays teams like St. Francis or McNeese, or SFA, or Nichols St, etc...

I'll just take your word for it since I'm too lazy to do research right now. The only research I have is that both PFL teams we've scheduled were H/H, with Campbell signing us for two H/H over four years...which would back up your statement.clenz wrote:That attitude isn't just Dayton. It's pretty common amongst the Patriot teams.
