After watching his press conference I feel a little better about Hoke, at least he loves Michigan & has no love for "that school in Ohio" as he calls it.
Kind of reminds me of Bobby Hauck & how he felt about the Cats.

Does anyone know if he showed up for the UM/OSU basketball game last night, ala Tressel?griz37 wrote:After watching his press conference I feel a little better about Hoke, at least he loves Michigan & has no love for "that school in Ohio" as he calls it.Kind of reminds me of Bobby Hauck & how he felt about the Cats.

Re: Michigan has their guy....
Both he and Denard were there. Both were introduced over the speaker system as being in attendence (at seperate times) and both got standing ovations. Apparently Hoke went on the court and shook hands with AD Brandon but no speech.89Hen wrote:Does anyone know if he showed up for the UM/OSU basketball game last night, ala Tressel?griz37 wrote:After watching his press conference I feel a little better about Hoke, at least he loves Michigan & has no love for "that school in Ohio" as he calls it.Kind of reminds me of Bobby Hauck & how he felt about the Cats.
The media and message board crowd is what is making this seem like a terrible hire. The majority of the fan base is excited about the hire.
He took Ball State to a perfect regular season in 2008. When he took that program over they weren't any better than they are right fucking now, so yes he had a losing record there because he took over one of the worst programs in the nation and got that changed.
Hoke took San Diego State from a 2 win team to a 9 win team with a bowl win, and made SDSU football at least semi relevant to someone outside of San Diego.
Talk all the shit you want about him "Being the last umpteenth choice" but he really wasn't. Hoke was in the discussion for the job from the very start.
Harbaugh was clearly the first choice - as he was for many places.
Reports are Miles was never offered the job - he was just talked to to gauge interest in the job.
Hoke then got the job, but Hoke was being talked to at the same time Miles was.
The attitude he seems to be bringing with him will be huge for the players. I follow a lot of the Michigan players on Twitter and every single one of them has said something to the effect of "Love this guy - can't wait to get on the field for him"...nothing like that was ever said during the RR era. A lot of the football players would never tweet about football while RR is there, even during the off season.
Put me down for Hokemania.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Michigan was apparently very interested in Pat Fitzgerald, HC @ Northwestern.clenz wrote:Both he and Denard were there. Fitzgerald would have been a better hire than Miles.

Fitzgerald is an amazing coach. But I think he is very loyal to NW.

The big ten wasn't even as good as the WAC last year, looks to me like they did just fine with this hire. Who else would want the job?

I don't think Fitzgerald is going anywhere. I found it interesting that Michigan was very interested in him and think he was a better candidate than Miles.youngterrier wrote:extremely loyal. Re: Michigan has their guy....
Maybe, maybe not. I highly doubt that Northwestern would have let him get away within the conference. If you have a good guy, you open up the purse strings (as far as you're able, anyway), particularly if the suitor is as close as Michigan is.UNI88 wrote:Fitzgerald would have been a better hire than Miles.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

And now Michigan has their Defensive Coordinator, most recently the DC for the Baltimore Ravens.
