Rumor that Aschan Richards has decommitted and is verbaling with the griz. Hate it when this happens (realize it happens all the time) because it now puts the school in a hard position to try and pick up a kid that they might have pulled an offer from. If true, best of luck Aschan!canyoncat wrote:So far at Montana State we have 9 commitments:

Update on the YSU Recruiting Trail:
YSU is planning to host more than a dozen potential recruits on Jan. 14 and will host about 20 on Jan. 21 and between 12-14 on Jan. 28.
The Jan. 21 date will include many players who have already committed to the Penguins.
YSU’s recruiting efforts have centered around high school seniors and junior college players, although that could change now that there have been several coaching changes at the Division I level.
YSU has commitments from 12 players and Wolford has said he would like to add about 30 players this offseason.

Re: 2011 Recruiting
People are pretty upset in Youngstown. Our top WR recruit from the Mahoning Valley's Girard HS rescinded his Youngstown State commitment and now committed to Ohio. He had offers to Indiana, Syracuse, a number of MAC schools, and YSU. He committed to YSU in August.
YSU still has 12 verbal commitments thus far.

"Paul Mania, a Third Team All-State linebacker from Hunterdon Central, has verbally committed to 1-AA Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
Mania visited Duquesne over the weekend, touring the school and meeting the team's players and coaches. He will received a combined athletic and academic scholarship.
Mania, who registered 72 tackles and 9.5 sacks for Hunterdon Central (10-2), the NJSIAA Group 4, Section 2 runner-up, chose Duquesne over Lehigh, Lafayette, Albany and Colgate. Mania said he anticipates playing outside linebacker for Duquesne, which competes in the Northeast Conference."

Villanova update
here's what rivals has officially-
additional commits
DT Jordan Hunter
DE Reggie Paris
TE/DE Morgan Craig
OL Vince Kowalski
LB Dillon Lucas
LB/RB/DB Matt McCann.
Still waiting to hear from (notables):
DB Terrell Chestnut. if Chestnut were to sign with Villanova, this would probably be the biggest recruit an FCS team has ever landed. as of right now, he's choosing between VU, miami, boston college, and west virginia
S/RB/LB Maika Polamalu. went to the same high school as Chestnut, has a kinda famous last name if you're into football (yes, he's related.)
DB/WR/RB Adam Dempsey. his brother John was one of Villanova's best defensive players for the past few years.
as you can see, this is quite the recruiting haul in a year where Villanova needed a big one, and it has the chance to get even better. on paper, this is easily the best in the country and perhaps the best ever for an FCS school. Villanova had to have been significantly aided in this haul by the rumors surrounding a potential move to the big east, even though most of these players would play a year or two tops in the big east if we do upgrade.

Re: 2011 Recruiting
The QB from Paramus is a really solid player. He'll need to bulk up (no way he's 190) but he's very athletic and was very succsuful in one of the toughest HS football areas in the nation (North Jersey).

1,955 passing yards- 21 TDs
2,023 rushing yards- 28 TDs
most impressive of all he accounted for 3,978 of Paramus' 4,685 yards of total offense

The QB he matched up against from Old Tapan is one of top junior recruits in the country right now. Good HS football around here.

Not disputing that Villanova will have a great class - they most certainly will and should given the profile and success of the program - but how do you figure, on paper, this class is the "perhaps the best ever for an FCS school?"Fact wrote:

i qualified that with "on paper". i'm not trying to predict anything, but i am saying that from a sheer recruiting website perspective, this class is ridiculous.

Re: 2011 Recruiting
Not saying you are predicting anything or that Nova won't have the best class when it's all said and done, but wondering if you were relying on the Rivals ratings in making that statement? Reason I say that is because "on paper" we had a very similar class last year, and may come close again this year if things fall into place...but I don't put much value on the Rivals ratings when it comes to making class comparisons at this level...I think there's obviously some merit to how they rate players, but a lot of it is political and I don't think there's a lot of consistency in how they determine who gets stars and how many...not to mention all the players who fall through the cracks, unevaluated.Fact wrote:i qualified that with "on paper". i'm not trying to predict anything, but i am saying that from a sheer recruiting website perspective, this class is ridiculous.
Of course, this argument arises every year and it's a lot of fun to debate! Ha!
Good luck to the Wildcats...I'm sure you guys will have a tremendous haul on signing day, as usual.

Villanova would appear to have the strongest class at this point from the FCS schools I've watched closely. I like NDSU's recruits a lot and it will be interesting to see who fills out YSU's 30 person recruiting class.

How much of Nova's recruiting is benefiting from the Big East invite?
You have to imagine if a kid is deciding between say Richmond, Nova, Delaware, MAC schools, etc... that he might be swayed knowing that by the time he leaves Nova he could very well be playing in the Big East?

Re: 2011 Recruiting
The recruiting sites are missing so much at our level as to be useless in ranking a class. They also play games with their rankings. Last month Scout.com had Tribe recruit Christian Brumbaugh rated the #67 QB in the country as a 3-star. After he committed to W&M, they dropped him to #109 and a 2-star. To earn that drop he completed 2010 with a 65% completion rate for nearly 4,000 yards and a PIAA record 52 TD passes, as well as a state AA POY designation. W&M sent four players to the NFL last spring, and none of them had even a single star from any service coming out of high school.

Jefferson two-way lineman Manny Cromuel has orally committed to South Dakota, Jefferson coach Mike Fenton said Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 298-pound Cromuel, who played both offensive guard and defensive tackle for the Dragons, just made an official visit to the Division I-AA school this past weekend.

so that's three players who turned down bcs offers to go to Villanova. and an incomplete list of guys who turned down other fbs offers.
