Wow...I must have missed where anyone said they deserved it? All anyone said is that they should have known to avoid this particular part of the ocean, given what's been happening there recently.

My guess is that when the final story comes out, this will be a botched rescue operation.

Maybe, but I'm guessing it was more of the Navy preventing the pirates from reaching the shore, with "negotiations" consisting of the pirates threatening the hostages if they weren't allowed to make landfall. More guessing - they probably shot one of the hostages as a warning, and the Seals were sent in, and the rest of the hostages were shot before they could be rescued.

And I'm guessing that the Seals will start proactively visiting suspected pirate strongholds along the Somali coast going forward...
