Serious question....if Marshall returned to FCS, would NDSU fans have to relinquish the "Herd" moniker? Especially since both schools have green as a primary color? What would happen if they had to meet on the field with such similar uniforms / fan monikers? I mean, besides finally having a full set of teeth in either stadium for the first time?Ursus A. When you rush for more than 1700 yards in one season it's a little bit more than just having a great day. He put up those numbers despite missing 8 quarters during the regular season. Probably even more than that when you factor in the games where he was pulled early on, which there were quite a few of.JBB wrote:Sometimes players have a great day like that. Its probably a big reason he is trying for the NFL.
Add that on to the year he had in 2009, and that is the reason he declared for the NFL.
To think that he isn't/wasn't a spectacular player is just ignorant, sorry.
Furthermore, the hits NDSU were putting on him had nothing to do with him going out of the game, and everything to do with one of your lineman stepping on his ankle when he was in full stride. It happens, but let's not pretend it was anything other than what it was. They didn't "figure" anything out, believe me on that.
Lastly, I haven't done any bragging on here - don't really think too many EWU folks have done that. But I will admit that I do get a kick out of rubbing it in the fans of the classless NDSU fanbase (not all of them) that were so full of themselves before this game.

What's so funny, Ranger? Of course a victory over NDSU is the biggest in EWU's history.....just like a 2005 semi win over Furman is hands-down AppSt's greatest victory of all time....

Excellant rebuttal EWURanger, and done without one "slostang sloboil"!
DJ McNorton had 2019 yds last season and he did it sharing the duties with at least 2 other backs in regular rotation, didnt lose a second to injury and looked every bit as good as TJ.
TJ is a good back, not great by NDSU standards, but I do wish him well.

I think the teams should play anyway. NDSU has the claim to the monicker "The Herd" because they have been using it for about 80 yrs. There are a few other schools called Bison too. They get attention that way.Appaholic wrote:Serious question....if Marshall returned to FCS, would NDSU fans have to relinquish the "Herd" moniker? Obviously, with all the kudos NDSU has received on its unis, especially the helmet, on the national media this year, and in years past, folks will be able to tell the difference. The BISON are a nationally known club, familiar to millions of fans nationwide both in uniform and in legend: THE BISON LORE.
Ps. the cowbells were just fine, it was the "bill fetteing" I had a problem with. Best blocker TJ had for the short time he was in the game.

It was the inauguration of the Inferno, against our number one rival, one of the most storied programs in FCS history coming off back to back title appearances, and we hadn't beat the Griz in Cheney since the early 90's. Definitely a bigger win than a quarterfinal game against an at-large MVFC #3 that just recently transitioned from DII.Silenoz wrote:Clearly your biggest win is the game where you rushed the field.... twiceEWURanger wrote:

And in spite of all the fun in the offseason that the two fan bases had back & forth The Griz faithful took the loss with some integrity so that let's the victor enjoy the win as it should be.kalm wrote:It was the inauguration of the Inferno, against our number one rival, one of the most storied programs in FCS history coming off back to back title appearances, and we hadn't beat the Griz in Cheney since the early 90's. I'm glad there are some good NDSU fans that post here otherwise I would have to assume that there is a complete lack of integrity that is prevalent throughout that fan base.
Your heart really has to go out to the good ones cuz the stink left on them after a lakes or a JBB post just has to kill them.

See, JBB, that's FCS respect. I'd wager beating Nova, Montana, and Delaware for the chipper were bigger wins than the NDSU win, and those were just from last year.kalm wrote:It was the inauguration of the Inferno, against our number one rival, one of the most storied programs in FCS history coming off back to back title appearances, and we hadn't beat the Griz in Cheney since the early 90's. Re: NDSU BISON* @ Eastern Washington University
Jones is a good back, no doubt about it, just not great or the best we have ever seen or anything like that. Here is what happened to him against NDSU:
First half was good with a couple long runs, one setup by bill fette. The 2nd half he mustered in the 3rd qtr 1 run for 4, 1 for 23, 2 for -4 ea, 2 for no gain. 4th quarter 1 for -4 and a fumble. After getting hit hard a few times he limped off. Didnt see him again,
To the question of the "good bison fans" I have taken a random sample from a conversation going on at BV:

I have visited Bisonville on occasion and there seem to be some pretty reasonable, objective posters on there. Although for every "good" one there also seem to be 4 or 5 of these lakebison type characters.
Who knows how productive Jones will be in the NFL, that's anyone's guess really. But that is sort of irrelevant to the fact that he ran all over the NDSU defense for a half of a game until he broke his foot. It is funny to me that people are even trying to argue this fact. Very funny. Go back and watch the first half of the game. Also, "JBB" fails to mention that some of the stats that he is quoting above happened after Jones broke his foot. Incidentally Jones is injury prone but in this instance it was just bad luck getting stepped on by someone.

He had 1559 yards rushing last season, with 433 receiving (in 14 games) for a total of 1992. TJ on the other hand had 1742 yards rushing and 342 receiving (in 11 games worth of action) for a total of 2084. DJ averaged 5.6 yards per carry, TJ averaged 7.9.JBB wrote:Excellant rebuttal EWURanger, and done without one "slostang sloboil"!

TJ had less carries, less games, and more yardage. DJ is good, but he's not great. The only knock TJ has is his durability, and it's because he is a track star with freak athleticism on a football field... his body isn't built for taking a hit. The thing is, he rarely does because he slips out of so many tackles or just out runs everyone.
