So what pretext should we use to invade Mexico, Clark?

You need to turn in the "houndawg" name...hounds are known to be good trackers. You, on the other hand, have no clue.

kneejerk would be a more accurate screen name for you.

But you can't possibly be saying that you continue to support the Afghan war because of 9/11, could you? That would make you an even bigger ignorant party hack...if such a thing is possible.

Psssst....we aren't fighting AQ in Afghanistan...we're fighting a bunch of local drug dealers who want to protect their territories. And you are supporting that effort.
Al Qaeda doesn't have a very strong presence in Afghanistan, currently. But, there was a report last week in the Wall Street Journal that they were coming back to camps in Eastern Afghanistan where US troops had retreated.

Al Qaeda is still massed just over the border in Pakistan. Once we leave Afghanistan, the Taliban will take back the government, Al Qaeda will set up shop again. And we'll be right back where we started.
Why don't you tell the government where they're at then?

And I guess you're saying we should just make Afghanistan the 51'st state, since we apparently can't ever leave.

The government knows that they're in the mountains of Pakistan along the Afghanistan border. They don't need my help.

Why? We could leave PR any time we want...apparently (according to you) we'll NEVER be able to leave Afghanistan or "we'll be right back where we started".

We'll be able to leave Afghanistan. Just have to root out the corruption in their government and train their army to be able to repel any attack by the Taliban.

It looked pretty hopeless in 2006 or so that we'd be leaving Iraq anytime soon... and it's not far off. The Iraqi government has become more and more competent and the Iraqi soldiers are able to fight on their own due to our training.

If Russia couldn't subdue the Afghanis from right next door using a terror campaign aimed at children and killing civilians wholesale, we will never be able to carry out our mission there. Whatever our mission is.

lol.

This article was in the paper this a.m...
Eight months shy of its deadline for pulling the last American soldier from Iraq and closing the door on an eight-year war, the Pentagon is having second thoughts.

Reluctant to say it publicly, officials fear a final pullout in December could create a security vacuum, offering an opportunity for power grabs by antagonists in an unresolved and simmering Arab-Kurd dispute, a weakened but still active al-Qaida or even an adventurous neighbor such as Iran.

You feel free to continue believing, however, that we'll magically be out of Iraq in 8 months, and magically root out the corruption in Afghanistan, get their army trained, defeat the Taliban, kill all Al Quadia, and get Bin Laden.

Let me know how that works for you. :coffee:

We're going to be out of Iraq. I know it is going slow. I didn't say we were out or we're going to be out next week or anything. But, we're down to 47,000 from 160,000+... that's pretty significant. Scoff at it if you'd like.

We had no business being there in the first place... yet you supported it all through Bush's term. You supported our mission in Afghanistan... but, now you're ready to give up. Why? Is it too hard? Military can't handle it? What?

Once again, you completely swing and miss...getting to be a habit...maybe you ought to sit the next few plays out?

I supported being IN Iraq, as I felt it was unconscionable to destabilize it and THEN leave. However, the day the new Iraqi president said he wanted US troops gone, I'd have issued the order and had everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) home in 90 days---MAX. They don't want us there? Great...let's get the fuck out.

And as far as Iraq goes, it's become increasingly clear (and this has little to do with Obama and more to do with politics in general) that our original mission (Get Bin Laden) has been compromised and it's become nothing more than another Viet Nam...fighting for and then giving up the same territory over and over and over again. As I said in the "Restrepo" thread, it's obvious we learned nothing in Viet Nam and, given that, we should immediately pack up and get the troops home. Soldiers and Marines are dying at a record pace, with no end in sight, we have no clear mission, and what does pass as a "mission" is fatally flawed.

I believ we should pull everyone out and nuke the place, sending the message to those who harbor terrorists that "you fuck with the bull, you get the horns."

Well, I apologize to you that Maliki didn't call me personally to let me know of his position immediately. Unlike you, have a job, I've got to make a lot of money to pay for the tax base for freeloaders like yourself. And really, I don't give a fuck whether you believe me or not. Getting out of Iraq has nothing to do with who is president. If McCain had been elected and Maliki had said that, I'd have felt the same way.
