Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON preview alert
This is some post-season news that broke for St. Francis that many of you may not be aware of:
A little about his role with the Seminoles:http://www.sfuathletics.com/news/2011/1/11/FB_0111110351.aspx wrote: Former Altoona Area High School standout A.J. Alexander has transferred to Saint Francis University to continue his academic and athletic career after spending the past three seasons with the Florida State Seminoles program.
“We're very excited to have A.J. join us,” said head coach Chris Villarrial. “A guy with his exceptional talent helps us stretch the field and stress defenses.”
Alexander played both defensive back and receiver for the Seminoles over three years, and also saw work as a punt returner. He was injured just two games into the 2008 season and was granted a medical hardship redshirt. In 2009, Alexander played in three games as a defensive back for the Seminoles, recording an interception against BYU and returning it 21 yards. In 2010 Alexander was converted to a slot receiver, catching two passes for 18 yards and recorded three rushes for 12 yards.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON preview alert
The Red Flash may be over matched in this one? This could be a great BISON day to work on the passing game. It will be a fun game. Its the final prep for the Gophers. The BISON will be at Minnesota the following week.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON preview alert
our 3rd teamers will get plenty of work, this and the lafayette game are reasons for my wanting NDSU to goto FBS
Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON preview alert
There has to be more reason than that? Even in the FBS every game isnt going to be a "good" game. I would like to see NDSU football grow too. We are lucky to have this game. GSU put us in a tight spot. This game also counts in the playoff picture.
St Francis is an experienced squad that plays a lot of different schools. You may have looked at their schedule posted at the begining of the thread. They played Cal Poly and lost 41 - 33 last season, not that Cal Poly is any big deal. The point is the Red Flash play the game and can score points.
This game should be wide open. Our passing attack should get a good work out with the running game held in reserve to make sure everyting is successful. The following week we travel to the Gophers.
I think there is going to be a lot of partying for this game.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON*
Last year the Flash lost to Robert Morris 36-14. As many of you may know Robert Morris was a playoff team and lost to NDSU in the first round.
I dont think much has changed. The Flash lost to Wagner last weekend. They are over-matched on Saturday.
Clearly this is a BISON win. This is a chance to play the roster. Everybody has already been playing, and thats the idea: let everybody play, gain experience and live up to potential.
Watch for a 35-10. It could go more, but hey, they scored 33 on Cal Poly last year and Cal Poly was cream of the crop from the Great West weren't they Slo Stang....

whenever I see the name/mascot "red flash", I tend to think of something like this:

granted, I'd qualify her as more of a light brunette than a real redhead, but it's something that came up in the google search so I went with it. haha. (was going to put it behind a spoiler, but I figure it's no worse than what's already in this thread, at least after my modifications. haha)

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON*
The Red Flash roll into Fargo next Friday for a Saturday game. They are coming off a loss to Wagner, an opponent The BISON put away handily a few years back.
Last season the Red Flash Lost to Robert Morris 35-14 a team NDSU beat in the playoffs 43-17. They also lost to Wagner, Cal Poly and Central Connecticut State. In fact they only beat Sacred Heart.
Although the Flash can boast some decent recruiting they are not a program competiting on the same level or with the same resources NDSU has. They are a counter, just like Georgia Southern who backed out on the date.
The thing about the Flash is this: They lose a lot of football games but they play solid ball. Last week they dropped the game to Wagner 38-28 but the Flash, at least on paper, looked like the better team. They had just under 500 yds in total offense outgaining Wagner by 100 yds. They passed for 273 yds, 2 TDs and 1 INT.
We will see a disciplined and conditioned team. They started slow against Wagner but the second half saw the Flash score 7 in the third and 14 in the 4th just like the Seahawks. We will see a well coached team. A team that will compete well.
NDSU on the other hand is going to use this game to polish up what we saw last week, running game led by the passing attack with a stifling defense. The Red Flash arent going to get 474 yds in total offense. NDSU will do better than Wagner.
Keep the Robert Morris and Augi Tapes on the table and ready for review. That is what we are going to see on Saturday.
NDSU in a handy and entertaining win say 42-14.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON*
One thing about the Flash, they like to keep drives alive. They had a great 47% third down conversion rate last week against Wagner. That resulted in almost 35 minutes of possession time. A huge advantage for the Flash. Thats good.
It was the same thing for the Jackrabbits Saturday. SDSU had a 50% conversion rate against SUU resulting in 35 minutes of possession time for the Jacks. Probably a big factor in their close win.
If The Red Flash are able to maintain the high rate of success on third down they may be able to keep the game from breaking wide open in favor of the BISON. If the third down conversion rate is pushed down into the 30% range or lower, which is very possible, the extra possessions will assure a lopsided score in favor of The BISON.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON*
There are a couple of things going on right now. The Red Flash are dogged competitors having played a nice cross section of the FCS. They arent afraid to compete OOC. Saturdays game was the good fortune for St. Francis. A nice opportunity to take the team into a national venue, and NFL Veteran coach Chris Villarrial knows all about that, pick up a nice guarantee and test his coaching skills and 26 scholarships agaisnt the BISON.
There is also an element of respect. The Red Flash are serious competitors. They may be overmatched but they are going to bring their own game. They can keep it close by keeping the 3rd down conversion rate up. NDSU cannot look past this team.
The game isnt sold out. Im not checking and Im not getting any reports on attendance. My guess about the same as Lafayette. Big game with 17 K? I think so. Good tailgate? It should be a winner.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON*
Reports are starting to come in that there are less than 1,000 tickets left for the game. This is an excellent sign. With every reason to believe the outcome isnt in question The BISON are still able to post a very strong crowd on a national scale. This almost assures sellouts the rest of the way. My advice to BISON fans is to head over to http://www.gobison.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; right now and pick up your tickets for future games, if there are any left.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON*
Bad news in Bison City. DJ McNorton will miss Saturdays game with a sprained ankle. Good news is he has two full weeks to recover.
Thats going to free up 13 carries and answers the unasked question of why DJ had so few carries last week. Ojuri had 15.
This is going to give us a better look at Ojuri, a running back with a lot of moves and the speed to make them work, as well as a few more carries for the younger guys Hudson and Lang.

Re: The St. Francis Red Flash @ NDSU BISON*
We are now getting reports that back up QB Esley Thorton will play the first half for the BISON. Good move. We need to spread the experience around when we can afford too. Coach Bohl has been too conservative in the past in spreading out experience at QB.
