Yeah, you'd think they'd have a QB's view of ODU's center instead of DeMarco on the cover...

And the even better news is you don't have that type of anything. :coffee:
Yeah we do. We have that "except maybe sometimes the QB" situation. DeMarco has 25 starts under his belt and we run a spread offense. Our backups are newcomers to the program. If we lose him, we are sunk. Delaware, like W&M, can interchange QB's because of their offensive style. W&M proved that last year and UD has proven that his year. That's not hard to understand.

I hope the game turns out to be better (from anyones perspective) than this thread. Right now it's some pretty weak sauce.

Weird, though, because I'm sure it's not their first time.

I don't have the exact reference from the Real Man Book, but I am pretty sure that would cause the ref to throw the homo :flag:

From the Bobby Wilder Coach's Show tonight:
Old Dominion will be bringing the entire playbook that will include, if the situation presents itself, things we have not done before.

Now we have done a lot of off the wall stuff. QB punting the ball on 4th and 1, onside kicks, etc. The one thing we have never done is the halfback pass. This may be in our bag of tricks. Flea-flicker is a possibility too. I don't think we have done that yet.

The point is, this will be one of those games where you won't want to miss a single play, especially if you are at the game (can't rewind to see it).

17-1/2 hours until my official prediction.

If I'm ODU, that would be my approach as well. This is a gateway game for them, and they know they do not match up on paper. Pull a trick and take the crowd out early and have the Delaware D backfield scratching their heads and getting dressed down by the coaches on the sideline and you may grab the momentum and keep it.

It's football after all, and we all know the title of the other FCS website, which is always in play. Hence my prediction very early in this thread that ODU may very well hold the halftime lead by 7 to 10.

That being said, I still think the Hens, over 60 minutes, display their superiority. FCS title game aside, the Hens can really wear the opponent down with our o-line and running game in a second half.

This game could be similar to the Duquesne game last year. Seems to be at about the same point in the season too. Our DBs were torched early, but it was a very different game later.

At some point our coaching staff cannot prepare for everything. With that being said trick plays do grab momentum but at some point ODU is going to go back to doing what they do best and it'll be UD's job to stop them. You can't have a trick play every play. An outside kick, fake punt, HB pass, etc can easily backfire and give UD great field position. That's the thing about trick plays, you do them when least expected but if they fail...

Good post, UD1. The pressure is on UD for certain. ODU could open with an onside kick and they've blocked a few punts already this season. For the sake of argument, say UD is 14 points better than ODU. A blocked punt, onside kick, turnover, etc could easily erase that.

How did your game against them go last year? Did they play clown football the whole game and then you just beat them anyway?

We did recover an onside kick, but didn't convert on the following drive. Otherwise, we played them behind the line. A lot of short passes behind the line and then let blocking do its job.

A stolen copy of the ODU playbook was found in KC Keeler's office and photos have been leaked:

Bill and Mary missed 3 FGs which certainly didn't help. It looked like Ronnie Cameron just lived in their backfield.

Trick plays and gimmicks only work if you find success at doing something. For example, successful short passes can lead to a pump fake and double move to go deep. Successful runs up the middle sets up the flea flicker. Successful runs to the outside sets up the halfback pass. So if we don't find success in any area that we feel the defense is keyed in on, we won't run any clown plays.

However, the effect of trick plays is far reaching. It starts early in the game week. Coaches try and determine what you have done in the past. Then precious practice time is consumed on defending these plays (onside kicks, punt blocking, etc). Then, during the game, we may get an extra yard or two on certain plays because the safeties have delayed their attack to ensure nothing crazy is coming. It is an interesting study of both sides of the "game".
