D-III Playoffs
Yeah, traditional D-III powers Mount Union and WI-Whitewater are both in at 10-0. I'm shocked ever year at how many teams get in with undefeated records in D-III.
But what might be more of interest (particularly for our Hen fans) is this intriguing matchup in the lower left corner of the bracket:
Norwich (7-3) @ Delaware Valley (10-0).
Are these guys "for real?" I'd really like to see someone other than Whitewater (upper left corner of the bracket) take on Mount Union (lower right) in the finals....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Actually, this Hen fan and native Delawarean is pulling for Dover's own Wesley College.SuperHornet wrote:Yeah, traditional D-III powers Mount Union and WI-Whitewater are both in at 10-0. I'm shocked ever year at how many teams get in with undefeated records in D-III.

Wesley lost to WI-Whitewater in the semis last year and Mt Union in the semis in 2009.

SuperHornet, Delaware Valley is actually a college about an hour north of Philadelphia and an hour and a half north of Delaware.SuperHornet wrote:But what might be more of interest (particularly for our Hen fans) is this intriguing matchup in the lower left corner of the bracket:

The state of Delaware has a very solid DIII program named Wesley College. They are 9-1 this year. They were 12-1 last year with a semifinal loss to Whitewater. In 2009 they were 13-1 with a semifinal loss to Mount Union. They are 70-11 with 6 of those losses in the playoffs since 2004.
Re: D-III Playoffs
I was looking up 2009 when you typed and made an edit. They lost to Mt Union in 2009. Wesley is a very good D3 team, 6-2 in the playoffs the last two seasons, but WI-W and Mt U are just in a class by themselves.DSUrocks07 wrote:fify93henfan wrote:Wesley loses to WI-Whitewater in the semis EVERY year.

And while we're on Delmarva, don't forget Salisbury at 9-1 in the D-3 playoffs this year. Unfortunately for them, they are in Whitewater's quarter bracket. Wesley has a path to the semis before they'd meet Mt U.

Wesley vs Salisbury for the D3 title93henfan wrote:And while we're on Delmarva, don't forget Salisbury at 9-1 in the D-3 playoffs this year. Unfortunately for them, they are in Whitewater's quarter bracket. Wesley has a path to the semis before they'd meet Mt U.
Truthfully Mt. Union, UW-Whitewater, and Wesley all need to move up to D2. I guess you can refer to Wesley as a "traditional (second-tier) power", but with those two heavyweights always blocking their path to the championship game.

Re: D-III Playoffs
Yep Del Val college is NOT in the state of Delaware. (It's in Doylestown, PA - Bucks County, home of the former HS FB pwoerhouse Central Bucks West) For people outside the region the South Jersey/Greater Philadelphia 5-county area/New Castle County in Delaware are commonly referred to by locals as "the Delaware Valley".
It would be nice for a change to NOT see Mount Union & Wisc-Whitewater play for a title.

That's crazy. So you're saying the area that drains into the Delaware River is being called the Delaware Valley? That's the nuttiest thing I've ever heard!bluehenbillk wrote:For people outside the region the South Jersey/Greater Philadelphia 5-county area/New Castle County in Delaware are commonly referred to by locals as "the Delaware Valley".
I wonder what they call the area that drains into the Lehigh River?

FWIW, I grew up in NCC and never thought of NCC as "Delaware Valley". Brandywine Valley, yes.bluehenbillk wrote:For people outside the region the South Jersey/Greater Philadelphia 5-county area/New Castle County in Delaware are commonly referred to by locals as "the Delaware Valley".

I refer to the area north of Philly and south of the Poconos as the Delaware Valley.
Re: D-III Playoffs
I always considered the TV viewing area of Philly the Delaware Valley as, for instance, Channel 6 Action News leads each night with the announcer stating "Delaware Valley's leading news program" and by golly I watch it.DSUrocks07 wrote:I refer to the area north of Philly and south of the Poconos as the Delaware Valley.

Did you ever see the Blue Hens on Channel 6 Action News?93henfan wrote:I always considered the TV viewing area of Philly the Delaware Valley as, for instance, Channel 6 Action News leads each night with the announcer stating "Delaware Valley's leading news program" and by golly I watch it.DSUrocks07 wrote:I refer to the area north of Philly and south of the Poconos as the Delaware Valley.
Re: D-III Playoffs
Yes actually. It's not in-depth coverage, but you'll frequently see a three play montage when they're running down the locals after Penn State. Last year, they were running "Go Blue Hens" spots from Channel 6 during the weeks leading up to Frisco.89Hen wrote:Did you ever see the Blue Hens on Channel 6 Action News?93henfan wrote:

Re: D-III Playoffs
I have no interest in the D3 playoffs this year....but I'll watch them on TV.
Wartburg started the season in the top 10, finished the season 8-2 and in posession of second place in the IIAC (the first place team finished 9-1 ranked in the top 20...and only reason they aren't top 10 is they are a traditionally bad team), and they don't get into the playoffs.
Are you friggin kidding me with that one?

Re: D-III Playoffs
My host family for the Big33 game had a son who played DE for Delaware Valley. Cool guy.
I always considered the Delaware Valley the area to the east and west of the Delaware, north of Philly.
There is no "valley" in Delaware or South Jersey. South of Philly is the Delware Bay.
But I won't continue to bore you with this geography lesson.

I grew up in NCC as well, and then moved to PA - every Philly TV station refers to the area as "the Delaware Valley", and you see/hear TV/radio commercials constantly saying the same thing.
89- Where do you think the Blue Hen sound at the Tub came from - the weather guy for 6ABC is a UD grad - they talk UD football all the time. Come to games more often and you'll figure that out. Stop by on Saturday & I'll give you a beer - I see 93 at basically every game.

Philly stations do call the area "Delaware Valley" but when I lived there they didn't give a rats ass about NCC. Your obsession with my attendance is rather odd.bluehenbillk wrote:I grew up in NCC as well, and then moved to PA - every Philly TV station refers to the area as "the Delaware Valley", and you see/hear TV/radio commercials constantly saying the same thing.
