btw. when is Liberty gonna come to ODU?! The Monarchs have played every virginia FCS school so far except for the Flames.
VMI, JMU, Richmond, WM, Hampton, Norfolk State after today....

We've been trying to get on your schedule since you announced you were adding football. Allegedly your AD has stated that he would never intentionally schedule us. Supposedly he is also a primary leader of those who are trying to keep us out of the CAA.ODUalum11 wrote:btw. when is Liberty gonna come to ODU?! They then quickly fell out and into the 30s during the early part of the season
They then got into their crappy conference and for some reason jumped back up to #15 at their high point....

Whether your fans/administration/coaches/etc... want to admit it or not the ideology Liberty was founded on, the beliefs of the founder, etc.... will keep Liberty from getting places they feel they should be.Sly Fox wrote:We've been trying to get on your schedule since you announced you were adding football. Re: Liberty?
Oh we get it. I was just letting ODUalum11 know that our lack of competition is not for lack of effort coming from Lynchburg. On a somewhat related note, I always love how my alma mater is derided for being close-minded by those who refuse to engage in dialogue with us. But this is not a new revelation for us and we're doing quite well as a school these in spite of the feelings of some.
For the record, the CAA is not out of the realm of possibilities for Liberty in the not too distant future unless we get an FBS invitation sooner. The latter is our publicly stated goal.

classless is implying that you hope jerry fallwell burns in hell.
that's a little different then saying you don't like him, and honestly there is a lot of reasons not to like him. honestly, as a student of liberty, I feel like one of the best things to ever happen to the school was his death. 35 million dollars in life insurance got us debt free, along with getting away from some of the (very) dumb things he said. it was holding us back. its a shame some people wont let go of the mistakes he made. if you want an honest look at who we are from an outsiders perspective i highly recommend reading "the unlikely disciple" by kevin roose. he was a college student at Brown, who spent a semester at LU, and wrote a book on it. It will open your eyes to more than just the stereotypes you have of us, in ways that i wont convince you of, no matter how hard I try.
our AD has said publicly that we are willing to schedule a home and home with any FCS team in the country.

Re: Liberty?
You won't get a home and home with very many teams of national importance. For example, I can promise you that if you want to play UNI you will have to do a 2-1 at UNI with both home games for UNI upfront.flamesfan10 wrote: our AD has said publicly that we are willing to schedule a home and home with any FCS team in the country.

Yep....as would App State, Montana, Montana State, UD, ODU, etc....DSUrocks07 wrote:And UNI will probably buy you out on the third gameclenz wrote: You won't get a home and home with very many teams of national importance. Actually UNI wouldn't buy you out...we'd replace you with an FBS game and have the FBS team pay for the buy out and then pay for us to play them.....

yea, and that speaks to us still not being where we want to be. it takes time to build a program, something most of us dont like very much. which is only more frustrating to watch as ODU has gone from nothing to the playoffs as quick as they did.

Re: Liberty?
You guys are preaching to the choir. And as Mickey Matthews stated, top tier FCS schools really don't see much value in playing a school that is strong enough to beat them which could impact at large possibilities. We have the financial resources to do the same thing but we are having trouble getting schools from stronger FCS leagues to play ball with us. Big ups to CAA schools like W&M, JMU & UR who have been willing to sign contracts. As for schools like UNI & UM, there really isn't a huge upside to us signing home-away-home contracts. When you are in a bottom feeder league like the Big South anything less than a 9-2 record means no at large anyway. So why not stuff your schedule with as many bottom-feeding FCS schools as possible. That's how things stack up these days.
For the record, we have playoff teams Lehigh & Norfolk State coming to Lynchburg next year and at least one FBS on the schedule at Wake Forest. That leaves two open dates which we believe may be filled by an upper level FCS and another BCS school.

First of all Liberty didn't rank themselves it was the fans and posters . So if anyone has a gripe with Liberty's ranking look around the boards. We were under the radar all season and now face SHSU next week as playoff team. So it is what is - Liberty will be fine and we will go at it again next year in Virginia. Blame all the experts who voted for Liberty and or neglected SBU. Liberty lost a tough one on the road , I fully expect they will be back in the hunt come 2012.

I didn't rank Liberty all season....I saw them for what they really were....an average team on their best day

Re: Liberty?
Just my .02, but 99.9999% of the folks with LU ties that I have actually met are good people. Just because their founder is someone I don't agree with/have little if any respect for doesn't automatically make me lump them all in the same troubled and muddied basket with him. I'm glad people don't ridicule me (that often) for past mistakes our Pres at G-W made that got us in NCAA hot water.
FWIW, G-W has home/home series starting with Richmond and Wofford next season. I really wonder how hard it is for LU to schedule out of conference due to the Falwell stigma. Interesting debate for sure.

JFC, there's seven FCS schools in one state. You could form your own conference. Placing it in this perspective, there's no, zero, nada, nunca, excuses for anybody back east ever scheduling a DII.ODUalum11 wrote:well FWIW, I think ODU should schedule Liberty. Re: Liberty?
THIS is the problem. How can you criticize LU for having to schedule DII teams when so many of the FCS "power Teams" will not schedule reasonably. Add to it that some FCS teams have the same attitude of many on this board of "anyone but Liberty" and there you have the scheduling issues.
