Lum, Bell, and Mitchell (as expected). I'm going to assume Lum wins because his is the only team in the playoffs
T West got gypped. The only thing that should matter is what happens on the field

Too bad that trophy doesn't have a "redeem for one playoff berth/conference championship"
Anyone know when finalists are announced for the Buchanan trophy? I'd like to see where LJ Fort and Marcus Williams land on that

I wish Rennie wouldn't have missed that game....Oh well. I see Bell winning this, he is the real deal.
The only reason I like the MVFC going to their new schedule with USD joining is because UNI gets to miss Bell's JR and Sr seasons...

My lord it's going to be hilarious when BLM wins it, not Kneehigh's one-and-done-Lum.
At least for The Fan's sake, Lum will have more time to give him his daily protein injections.

Re: Payton finalists announced
How many times does a kid need to reach the endzone in order to be a finalist for the Payton award? It's one thing to simply throw the ball into the endzone that many times, but it's completely different to be the sole transporter of that ball past the goal line 27 separate times. Also, I'm surprised that Edwards from EWU didn't get any write-in votes. It seems that the Payton Award doesn't have that much to do with touchdowns after all and more to do with how popular your name is. (Brian Quick had 11 TD's, 64 receptions, and 1055 yds; Edwards had 19 TD's, 95 receptions, and 1250 yards) Why did Brian Quick get so many votes?

No shit, it's a total sham that Quick was added to the last revision instead of Edwards.MTfan4life wrote:How many times does a kid need to reach the endzone in order to be a finalist for the Payton award? Not that everyone doesn't go through injuries or that it mattered to the voters, but what BLM did minus a starting left tackle, minus a starting right guard, then a starting left guard, then minus a back up starting right guard, then minus an All American Center for three games with a 4th string 240 lb TE filling in at center makes his numbers even more impressive. He also had pretty much zero running game to keep defenses honest so every team knew exactly what was coming.
None the less, Bo Levi Mitchell was absolutely on fire this season and there's not a defense in the division (and judging by the UW game, several in the Pac 12) that wouldn't have had a ton of trouble stopping him.

His two worst games of the season were against both Montana's and you guys got even stronger as the season wore on, so kudos'. But both those games were at the height of our o-line injury problems. He played his best ball in the second half and yes, you would have still had trouble stopping him at that point.Mvemjsunpx wrote:*cough* Except for Montana *cough*kalm wrote:None the less, Bo Levi Mitchell was absolutely on fire this season and there's not a defense in the division (and judging by the UW game, several in the Pac 12) that wouldn't have had a ton of trouble stopping him.

Actually his worst two games were against Montana & South Dakota. He had a 143 efficiency rating against MSU (close to his season mark), but had a 119 versus SoDak and a 92 against the Griz.kalm wrote:His two worst games of the season were against both Montana's and you guys got even stronger as the season wore on, so kudos'. He was much better after his trek to WaGriz. I'll be surprised if he's the Payton winner, though, since EWU was largely out of the playoff race (& the top-25) by the time he got things going. Then again, I didn't expect him to even be in the top-3…

Passer rating shmasser rating. He threw for a 100 more yards against USD and more td's which also happened to be another game where we were breaking in new linemen. He threw two crucial picks but he was more productive in that game than the other two.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Actually his worst two games were against Montana & South Dakota. Re: Payton finalists announced
That's because he threw more than twice as many passes against SoDak than he did against MSU. He averaged about 3 more yards-per-attempt against MSU than he did against the Coyotes. You don't honestly think yardage is more important than efficiency, do you? Yardage is mostly just a product of how often you throw the ball.kalm wrote:Passer rating shmasser rating. And weren't you breaking in O-Linemen against the Bobcats, too? That was only 2 weeks later.

Re: Payton finalists announced
Yes, it depends on both the yardage and attempts. Neither were his best game, so you and I are picking nits here to prove our respective points. I watched them both and feel he was better against USD and still the most deserving of the Payton.Mvemjsunpx wrote:That's because he threw more than twice as many passes against SoDak than he did against MSU.
