In baseball, if a so called dream team finishes 1st in the league, then they have achieved success. MLB playoffs rarely have the "dream team" win the world series since it's such a crap shoot. Hopefully, that will change a little with the new playoff format.
From what I'm reading now this was just as much about "big name recognition" and market share as it was about getting a good player. Apparently the Angels are in a position to suck many, many fans and TV $$ away from the Dodgers and feel that this may help them. If that pans out, the 25 mil a year in those later years may turn out to be not so bad when compared to the money the Angles stand to make in the near future.
As an Angles fan myself, I hope they are right. But I was concerned about the later years and mortgaging the future...

Fox and the Angels signed a 20 year TV deal for 3 Billion Dollars. If my math is correct, that's 150 mil a year!
