I've been a Delaware fan since birth, but for practical purposes, the first game I ever attended was West Chester at Delaware. I do not remember the exact year; either '85 or '86. I sat in section I, up high. I was amazed at the size of the stadium, as I had only been to pop warner and high school games. I was also impressed by the Delaware QB, Rich Gannon.

Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
Attended my first UM game at Dornblazer when I was about 12. I really became a fan, however, when I was at U of Idaho and the Griz would come over for their football/basketball games....yeah, we sucked then (at least in football, it was RIGHT before Don Read) but I hated all the Idaho athletes so bad I just HAD to cheer for my hometown Griz. Been a fan ever since (so, 26+ years now).

Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
Mid to late 1980s sometime when I was a kid.
Went to Flagstaff with my family to watch NAU play the U of Montana in football. My cousin played for the Griz then so I went into the game rooting for UM. After walking past a crazy McConnell Hall after the game and liking the mountains and trees, the decision was pretty much made to go to school in Flagstaff. Didn't plan on it that weekend but I've been a Lumberjack fan since.

Born in Ogden, lived there for a while, my dad is a huge Weber fan and he took me to lots of games, and over time I became a Webercat too.

1980, when I first laid down $50 for a season ticket down payment for a team that didn't start playing until 2009.

That was 1985 or 1986, wasn't it? I did the same. I still have the newpaper clipping from the USA Today that says we will field a team in 1988.Monarch Nation wrote:1980, when I first laid down $50 for a season ticket down payment for a team that didn't start playing until 2009.

My entire family went to UNC and we're all teachers (UNC being the state Normal school). Born and raised in Greeley and went to UNC basketball games when I was a kid in the 1980's. Started going to football games when I was a student. Member of the Blue and Gold Club and season ticket holder for several years now.

The day it was announced that GSC had restarted the football program and hired Erk Russell to be the head coach, which would have been 1981. Erk was a legend in the state of Georgia then due to his tenure as DC at UGA and the legend only grew.

My sister went to UD in the fall of 1968, my brother in the fall of '71. We started going to games, listening to them on the radio then. But I'm not a real fan, just ask BillK.

My dad is a UD alum and started taking me to games regularly when I was about a 3 years old. I grew up walking distance from Delaware stadium and started going to games with my friends when I was 11 or so. We used to lift up the fence near the north end zone entrance and crawl under to sneak in.

Born and raised to hate the Coyotes. That's how it is in SoDak, you're either one or the other.

Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
I went to UC Davis in 1970 with little knowledge of the campus. I became an instant Aggie fan when my dorm roommmate asked if I wanted to go to the first home football game with him. He got drunk and I enjoyed the game. I have been going ever since. I graduated with two UC Davis degrees, became a UC employee and have three Aggie kids.
Re: When did you become a fan of your favorite team?
One of my uncles brought me to a McNeese game when I was 14. That is when it started. I became a hardcore fan during my time at McNeese from 68-72. I'm now a big booster and both of my sons have graduated from McNeese within the last 10 years and are fans.

My brother went to soccer camp at ASU when I was a freshman in HS. I told my dad, after taking a tour of the field house and football field, that I was going to go to ASU. Started following the teams and been hooked since.

You're probably right. I mixed up the paying for a season ticket with the time we first started pushing for a team.CAA Flagship wrote:That was 1985 or 1986, wasn't it? I did the same. Either way, both of us were Monarch football fans long before there was a team.
